To Love Instuction…

To Love Instruction…

“Whoso loveth instruction (Or, discipline) loveth knowledge (Or, understanding); but he that hateth reproof ( Or, correction) is brutish (Or, rebellious).” (Proverbs 12:1).

Sadly, we are living in a society that makes fun of those who seek a disciplined, submissive, and wholesome lifestyle while it celebrates those who rebel against any type of authority, instruction, or correction.

Too many times a “rebellious” mindset to authority begins early in childhood. Our nation’s jails and correctional institutions are filled with inmates that never accepted being told, “NO,” or what to do…Putting a person with a rebellious attitude and mindset in mainstream society along with other contributing negative factors can produce a very troubled soul.

Fortunately, as a child, I was told that handing out discipline was just like handing out love. My dad always told me, “I don’t discipline the neighbor’s kids because they don’t belong to me, but I discipline you because you belong to me and I want what’s best for you.” Because of my dad’s approach to discipline I grew up with a healthy attitude of acceptance towards authority. Sadly, I fear many of our youth today are missing this healthy attitude towards discipline and the ability to receive the word, “NO” without argument. Unfortunately, this negative attitude towards authority and discipline is making its way into our schools, universities, work places, government, and even our churches.

Many today will not endeavor (make an effort) to keep the unity or peace unless they “get their own way.” The need for cooperation, team work, compromise, seeing the bigger picture, or self-reflection is not taken into consideration. Many people would rather see discord, conflict, and confusion rather than seeking instruction, knowledge, or even reproof. As the Bible plainly teaches, none of us are perfect and we all need instruction and correction from time to time.

As Christians, it should be our attitude to welcome instruction and correction into our lives as it will also bring forth knowledge, experience, and wisdom. Being willing to accept a little warranted instruction here and there can spread great peace, unity, and joy for everyone involved.

So, the next time something doesn’t work out your way instead of getting upset or mad, ask our LORD to show you how you can use it to better gain knowledge and understanding. In doing so, you are demonstrating wisdom and your love for instruction.

Remember, Jesus Loves YOU!

When the Retaliation is Greater Than the Offense

When the Retaliation is Greater Than the Offense

In this piece, I am not talking about wars of nations or the protection of individual lives from perils of injury or death; I am talking about conflicts that can arise between individuals and/or groups of individuals.

Sadly, I believe that our nation, many of our families, and even some of our churches are suffering from a condition where those who choose to sit in judgment justify and often support the “greater” acts of negative reciprocation more than the original crime of offense(s).

In other words, someone may truly offend another person, but when the offended person or group of persons retaliate at such a level of degree that their retaliation far outweighs the original offense, which party is then at greater fault?

We all know people who can be offended and able to recall the very date and hour of the offense, no matter how small or great, thirty years now the road. They will make comments such as, “Well, I don’t like that person because back in elementary school they stole my eraser and never gave it back or said they were sorry.” Now mind you the person making the statement is now seventy years old!! But, that is exactly how some people wish to live out their lives.

Other people who become offended may seek to bring a “crowd” of people to their rescue or defense causing a small matter to suddenly erupt into a larger one. We all need to monitor our own emotions when we become offended and upset at another human being. Truly, we may have been terribly wronged and injustice was served, but to gather a “crowd” in order to “draw a line-in-the-sand” can become quite harmful; especially to those who do not know both sides of the story. And, one sure element of maturity is to know from the get-go that there are always two sides to any story..And, both sides “perceived truth” to them is truth. This is why it takes “skilled” investigators often great lengths in time to truly find the bottom line of truth in any matter…And, it takes lots of dedicated “prayers” by mature Christians to seek out truth and God’s guidance in most matters regardless if it involves home, work, play, or church.

Today, many people want to accept the “perception of the truth” almost immediately without hearing out both sides. Conflicts, differences of opinions, and major differences between personal ethics and personal mannerisms are not easy to differentiate who’s right from who’s wrong when opposed. Both motives and hidden attitudes must be considered as well as who has the most to lose…But, just deciding that the person who has the most to lose is the one in the wrong is not always the case. Take the incident in the Bible where two women claimed the same baby.

One of two ladies tiny baby died during the night. So the lady whose baby had died got up quietly during the night and “swapped” her dead baby for the other lady’s living baby. The next morning the mother of the living baby immediately recognized that the dead baby lying next to her was not her baby. She looked around and saw her living baby in the arms of the other mother. Naturally, a fight erupted between the two mothers. The two mothers were brought before King Solomon to rule his judgment as to whom the living baby belonged. In his very blessed heart of wisdom Solomon ordered the living baby to be cut into half. Immediately, the real mother screamed out not to cut the baby into half but rather give the whole baby to the other mother…That my friend is a “mother’s love.” King Solomon immediately ordered the baby to be returned to the rightful mother. Sometimes, to avoid further harm and hurt in a matter the person who loves and cares the most will sacrifice their own heart for the sake of the bigger picture! So, the one who has the most to lose may very well back off and become the greater victim. Only God knows the real heart of man. (See I King 3:16-28 for Solomon’s story of the two mothers.)

In today’s modern society patience is not highly valued nor appreciated. A person who wishes to “wait” on a matter and allow God to bring all things to light is looked upon as being weak and not “pro-active” as the secular worlds refers. But, in GOD’s spiritual world patience is still a virtue, Fruit of the Spirit, and very much a valued trait; especially among leaders.

Some time ago, I heard of a group of people who decided to take matters into their own hands regarding an ongoing issue. At the most inappropriate time and place, they brought undue and negative attention to an already complex matter. Let me go on record as saying “nothing” good comes from abruptness of behavior in the wrong place at the wrong time; especially when there is an audience involved. A good rule of thumb to follow is that Satan always loves an unsuspecting audience who does not have all the details or facts. Satan thrives on creating confusion, perception, and division. Oh, my friend, it is so sad to see people bound to their emotional ties so much so that they willfully follow the works of darkness by believing that their harmful outward actions will bring things to light. Think about it…how can confusion bring anything to the True LIGHT?! Jesus does not work in such chaos. His voice brings stillness of heart. A good thing to remember and rule to follow.

It appears to me that our nation, government, organizations, families, and many of our churches are suffering from a lack of godly “wisdom.” We stand in need of modern-day Solomon’s to decipher right from wrong. We need men and women filled with the Holy Spirit to mediate and moderate for the overall good of everyone, all stakeholders; not just a select few or group.

When involved in matters of conflict, we need to be careful and mindful to channel our emotions and perceptions for the greater Truth and Honesty. It’s easy to get caught up in matters and situations that touch our lives and hearts. It takes great courage, patience, understanding, faith, hope, and LOVE to endure some of the challenges placed before us…But, like Solomon we can do it; when we seek the wisdom of God and know the tactics of Satan! As the Bible teaches, “No house can stand or survive when it is divided against itself…” (Matthew 12: 22-28). Jesus comes to heal and to bind. Satan comes to destroy and divide. We must learn and be familiar with God’s ways from those of Satan’s.

Today, let me just say that if you are a part of a movement where the reciprocation or retaliation of a matter is bringing forth greater harm than the offense (or, crime), take heed and warning you are NOT moving in the right direction. Repent. Ask for God’s forgiveness. Seek restitution with those whom you have personally offended and ask God for HIS wisdom to bring ALL things to the real LIGHT in the same matter as JESUS himself would do. No one has ever been more offended and personally attacked than Jesus Christ himself. Yet; from the Cross He cried, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Jesus always seeks to restore, revive, and return peace and positive outcome from negative.

Working through issues, differences of opinions, and offenses is not ever easy. There will always be a degree of pain involved; sometimes both mentally and emotionally for all parties involved…But, there is always a right way and a wrong way to go about resolving matters of conflict and personal ideologies.

In closing, I urge you to not let your retaliation or reactions become greater than the crime or offense(s) bestowed upon you or someone you love. As the Bible teaches, “Take heed lest ye fall.” (I Corinthians 10:12)…In time, and through much prayer, allow the Spirit of God to bring ALL things to HIS LIGHT. Only then will both the offenses and reactions be resolved and justified in the eyes of God. To God be the Glory. Amen.

“God’s Wisdom”

“God’s Wisdom…”

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him…” (James 1:5 KJV).

Have you ever actually stopped to seriously consider, ponder, and meditate upon this particular promise of God’s?  “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God.”  Amazing!  Simply ASK!

By Faith, I can seek God’s wisdom in all matters in life…How?  By simply “asking of God!” Amazing!  I have recently started applying this particular promise to my prayers in all things…Wisdom to know how to handle relational concerns.  Wisdom to know how to handle finances and to make wiser financial and investment decisions.  Wisdom regarding my personal health.  Wisdom to know how to plan my day, routine, and activities.  Wisdom to know how to study God’s Word more abundantly and how to apply it greater to my life…WISDOM!!!

I believe the first thing that any newly converted Christian should do is to ask God for wisdom in all areas and aspects of his or her life.  I feel that every prayer should include asking for Wisdom in each matter.  Without Godly wisdom and divine intervention, our lives would actually become barren and possibly make no sense whatsoever…Without God’s wisdom, we can become just as confused and uncertain about things as the lost and dying world…Oh, for more Faith and added Wisdom to be applied in our hearts, minds, and daily lives.

I believe that it is through divine wisdom that we learn to accept and lean upon God’s full assurance that “ALL things” are working out according to His purpose and plan (Romans 8:28).  Not that “ALL” things are good, or even good for us at the moment, but that God, in his Omnipotent existence, can and will bring those things to pass in such a way as to bring honor and glory unto His divine purpose for our lives.  Oh, to possess such wonderful wisdom from God!

Is there a prayer request that you have been praying for days, weeks, months, or perhaps even years, and have not heard from God?  Then, ask God to grant and give unto you His Wisdom for the matter.  It could be that God has answered and our eyes are not seeing the answer because we “lack wisdom.”  As Christians, we must possess, by Faith, God’s wisdom in order to see God’s unseen hand…Without God’s wisdom we may not see, comprehend, accept, or know for certain God’s will in a particular matter…Wisdom is the “key” factor in receiving and understanding God’s will for our lives in all things…

Today, if you are like me and stand in need of answers….Ask God…Seek God…Knock on Heaven’s Gate until you are filled with God’s Wisdom for the hour and the day.  I believe Wisdom is the cultivated fertile soil that brings forth God’s Fruit of the Spirit:  Love, Joy, Peace, Patience (longsuffering), Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness, and Temperance (self-control).  Without God’s wisdom, we can not know how to recognize and apply these characteristics into our lives…Oh, the Joy of Wisdom; God’s Wisdom…

The Fruit of the Spirit, as outlined in Galatians 5:22-23,  is manifested in nine areas of a Christian’s life and without God’s wisdom we will not know, or possibly even realize, how to apply these in our daily lives for God’s honor and for our own benefit…  Oh, how we stand in need of God’s wisdom in all areas, regards, and aspects of our lives!  Today, I pray for wisdom…

Ask, Seek, and Knock upon God’s heart today for his promise of Wisdom….For in doing so you and I will find rest for our souls…Amen…

Generations Come and Go…

Generations Come and Go…

“Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains….(Ecclesiastes 1:3)

On days when I am feeling a tad bit more “philosophical,” there’s no better place to turn than the book of Ecclesiastes.  The words of wisdom from Solomon’s pen brings “everything” going on around me into focus…

All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. What has been will be, and there is nothing new under the sun.”  All of these words, phrases, and sentences letting me know that those things that appear to be “out of control” are actually in God’s full control.  I needn’t worry.

Generations come and generations go.”  Sometimes, people get so full of themselves and filled with pride towards their “amazing understandings” of earthly things.  They seem to think that all of their “spiritualities” and keen awarenesses into all matters sets them far above others and that others should be so impressed with their acute accomplishments, insights, and intelligences.  And, at times, I suppose that we all can get caught up in a person’s abilities, attributes, accomplishments and characteristics…But, we need to be reminded that God is Not!  For ours is not the first generation of good and evil; and until the Lord returns it won’t be the last.

When it comes down to “rubber meeting the road” we all get into our pants one leg at a time.  We all have strengths and weaknesses.  We all fall short of the glory of God.  Our “new” concepts are ancient as old in God’s eyes.  Our abilities are “no” abilities outside of God’s will for our lives.  And, nothing is new that hasn’t already been done before, according to scriptures…

I believe there are approximately six hundred billion people on planet earth; give or take.  Have you ever thought of the enormous amount of numbers of people God has actually dealt with over ions of time?  Of course, there are those who made the superlative list like Adam, Noah, Moses, David, Solomon, John, Paul, Peter, Matthew, Stephen…etc…But, for the most part the remainder of “us” are average, give or take a few here and there.  Humans making our way through a very complex often time unclear path of life… One day at a time and hoping that we are making the most of each day given unto us…God have mercy!

But, God is and always will be in control.  He is the Alpha and Omega…the beginning and the end..the one true “fixture” of all time that is, was, and is to come!  The same yesterday, today, and forever.   Who else can “boast” of such attributes, characteristics, and accomplishments!!  None other than God, the Messiah…The Prince of Peace, The Everlasting Father, The King of Kings and Lord of Lords…Ahh….faith, hope, and truth…Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life!”

So, do you need a little reminder today, as we all do from time to time, that when all things seems “out of control,” that the Great I Am is in full control as Generations Come and Generations Go??!!  As the Bible teaches, HE has seen it all before, and He will see it all until He comes for his bride; the church.

I’m glad to say that I am a member of His blood-bought, redeemed church through Christ Jesus and that no matter what the morrow might hold, I know who holds tomorrow!  Generations Come and Generations Go, but our God reigns supreme forever and forever…Amen.

Paul’s Effectual Prayer…

Paul’s Effectual Prayer…

“I, Paul, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers…”

…”That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him (God); the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power towards us who believe, according to the working of his mighty power.”  (Ephesians 1:16-19)

What an example of a “prayer-warrior” was the Apostle Paul. Even as he sat alone in a cold prison cell, he wrote words of encouragement to his fellow believers assuring them that he was praying for them.  Not only did he tell them that he was praying for them, he told them what he was praying for: spirit of wisdom, revelation, enlightenment, hope, riches in God’s glory, and exceeding greatness of his (God’s) power.

As I read this passage last night, it dawned on me that this is the exact prayer I need to be praying for my family and for our nation.  More than ever, we need our lives to be saturated in God’s spirit of wisdom. We need a fresh on-going revelation of God’s will upon our lives.  We need our eyes to be opened to understanding. We need to be filled with the hope of His calling upon our lives. We need to trust in the riches of His glory we have as his saints. And, we need to be empowered in his powerful greatness.  We are heirs to a heavenly kingdom! Amen…

Oh my friend, I fully understand where you are coming from when you feel so overwhelmed by circumstances in your life.  Like me there are time when you wonder if God even cares and if he even listens anymore to our prayers…But, I can assure you that if the Apostle Paul maintained joyous hope in Christ while sitting alone in a prison cell waiting to be executed, you and I can have that same sustaining faith in the hope of our call in Christ Jesus as well. For God is not a respecter of persons. He will reveal himself to those who seek after Him in Spirit and in Truth.  For Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life; the very life that we seek after.

Put your circumstances in God’s hands. Allow Him to rule your heart and life with His spirit of wisdom and knowledge. Delight yourself in his riches in glory.  Feel the power of His resurrection flowing through your body…Give it all; give it all to Jesus…After all, only God knows the future and what all it holds for me and for you.

Today, want you pray with me Paul’s prayer for your own life,  your loved ones, and for our nation…After all, it is a very effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man that availeth much! (James 5:16).

God Knows Best!

God Knows Best!

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

Who better to know how to run things than the One responsible for creating them?  Yet; time and time again, generation after generation, mankind has unsuccessfully tried to find another way to live without the Creator’s manual (The Holy Bible) or following His instructions.

No one has ever tried to be proven wrong more than God…..Scientific man has tried all throughout the ages to “copy-cat” God’s creative powers with unproven “theories” of their own.  Some “theorists” say man “evolved” from a tadpole…Others say man “evolved” from monkeys…while others say we all came into existence through a “Big Bang” explosion of floating particles…How sadly Foolish…Foolish…Foolish! All of man’s thoughts “excluding” God are foolish!

“Someone” had to create the “tadpole”…someone had to create the “monkey”…and someone had to create the “dust” particles that randomly and mysteriously exploded!  However, for those of us who believe in God, we know who created each; and who created ALL!… Simple…Life made simple….Creation made simple…Science made simple…GOD!

As a child, I used to enjoy watching a television program called, “Father Knows Best.”  Ah…sweet memories of a more innocent time in television when the “parents” were honored and respected and not told to “eat my shorts” by some hand-sketched kid riding on a skateboard!  In today’s modern programs parents are made to look silly, ridiculous, and naive’.  Children, especially teens, are the all-knowing, cool ones who have an answer for everything!

No, I’m afraid “Hollywood” has it all wrong…God Knows Best and God has the answer to everything and His answers can be found in His book called the Holy Bible.  Last night, I had the blessed honor and privilege of sitting down and talking to one of my grandsons for nearly two hours about life and God.  I so enjoyed his sharing with me the insights God has been placing into his life; even as a teenager.  I could hear “wisdom” in his voice as he shared his thoughts about life and God.  Oh, I know he will be tried and tested as we all are, but his mom and dad have provided him with a good foundation in the Lord.  I am a very blessed grandmother to have seven grandchildren all of whom have been carried to church on a weekly basis since their birth…A true blessing from God.

In today’s world, it’s hard on teens and young adults to “stand” against the wiles of the world and proclaim that “God Knows Best!  I realize that it’s been hard and difficult in one way or the other for all generations who stand in Faith…But, friend…isn’t it so worth it!! Itsn’t it so worth knowing God the Creator as our personal Lord and Savior through Jesus Christ?!  Yes! Yes! And, Yes!!

Today, in the quiet reccesses of your mind you may be searching for answers.  You may be in need of assurance and added faith in your life.  If so, take the time to seek God; for in doing so you will be going to the right source; the true source; the only source worth finding!  God is the answer…God Knows Best!

Remember, God Loves You!

Fruit of the Spirit Part 3

Today, we will look at the last group in the series this week on Fruit of the Spirit.  We’ve looked at Love, Joy, Peace in group one; Longsuffering, Gentleness, Kindness in group two; and today we will look at the last group, Faith, Meekness, and Temperance.

I feel that the last group in the Fruit of the Spirit reveals wisdom and gained experience in our Christian life.  Hebrews 11:1 gives the definition for FaithNow, faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things NOT yet seen.

The longer a person walks in Faith the stronger their faith grows in the Lord.  The more mature a Christian becomes in the Words of God (the Bible) the more they understand the mysteries of such Scripture as, “For we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 KJV).  It requires Faith to accept and cope with devastating events and happenings within our lives.  It requires Faith to submit ourselves to God’s will for our life and the lives of our loved ones.

Meekness, in the sense that most people believe, is walking around with your head bowed down and letting the world walk all over you.  But, that is far from the Biblical definition of meekness.  Meekness is possessing a willing and humbled spirit to learn and to be teachable.  In other words, a meek person is always willing to learn more and more about God and His teachings (as well as other things in life).  They don’t feel as if they already, “know it all.”  A meek person is willing to learn from “their” own mistakes, faults, and failures and does NOT go around blaming others for their misfortunes in life.

Oh, oh, how many people do I know who think they “know it all.”  Unmeek people who have NO experience in certain areas; yet try to tell everyone how they should live, act,  and respond!! People who refuse to take responsibilities for choices made and actions they have made, but rather choose to “blame” everyone else for who they are!  There will be NO excuses in Heaven when we stand before our great King and Judge.  We won’t stand there saying, “But, God if so and so would not have done this or that…then, I wouldn’t have done this or that!  It’s their fault God!”

This is NOT a meek person’s response in life.  A meek person will say, “God, I am a sinner and no matter what others have done to me, I accept my role in the matter and ask for mercy, grace, and your forgiveness.”  Doesn’t the Bible TEACH us to “forgive as we are forgiven!”  But, a person who lacks “meekness” will always find an excuse for their actions and “judge” the actions of others more harshly.  God have mercy on “unmeek” people.

The last fruit mentioned in this group is Temperance….a well-balanced, sustaining life in Christ.  Temperance is the opposite of living from one extreme to the other.  I know people who jump up and suddenly wish to live godly lives.  They run to every revival meeting; they walk with their Bible tucked high under their arm pit; they try to talk all the “church lingo” they can manage to learn….Then, in six months to a year you can’t find them with a search warrant!!  These people pop in and out of church depending upon their circumstances and personal needs.

Then, there are those who choose the opposite end of the spectrum and say things like, “Well, you won’t find me in a church with all those hypocrites!” So, they live their lives in total opposite mannerisms of Biblical teachings; and are proud of it!  Extremes to Extremes; opposite Extremes.

I’m glad that God showed me a long time ago that I didn’t have to live in extremes to be in His will.  I have learned to have faith in HIM; to understand that I am weak and will make mistakes; to understand those around me make mistakes.  I have also set out on a course of following Christ Jesus and plan on “sticking” with it!  After all, even the old children’s fable teaches us that the slow-moving, yet ever-faithful, turtle reached the finish line while the fast-moving rabbit fizzled out!  Temperance…a well-balanced life in Christ Jesus. Amen.

I hope you have enjoyed my three parts of teaching on the Fruit of the Spirit. I hope you will be encouraged as you see these Fruits manifested in your own life.  As Christians we tend to demonstrate a different group at different times within our life, but others should always see evidence of the Fruit of the Spirit working within our lives; no matter our circumstances.

Remember, God Loves You!
