Right In His Own Eyes…

“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; but the LORD pondereth the hearts…”

(Proverbs 21:2 KJV).

Ever wondered why it is a challenge to deal with certain people? The answer can be found in the book of Proverbs. Unless a person walks daily with Christ as their personal Savior and is willing to submit to His Lordship, it is often quite difficult to show that person their wrong or error in any given situation or circumstance.

Unfortunately, the “pride of man” won’t allow us to see our own faults or errors, but be assured we are most willing to see others! For two or more people to truly find common ground to move forward in any matter they must both first remove the beam in their own eye before they can see clearly how to remove the speck from the other person’s eye. (Matthew 7:5) To self-reflect requires humility that comes only from the Hand and Heart of God. For one to be humble in any given situation it requires prayer asking God to “reveal” all deception, wrong motives, and self-will. As much as some folk would like, we cannot ALL be right! We can each share a piece of the pie which is made up of each person’s perspective, but to gain the whole pie we must put those pieces together!

Successful mediation takes great patience and hard work when the goal is to reach Peace and Understanding between two different perspectives or opinions. But, when it is finally reached the outcome is JOYFUL. Don’t be afraid to look at something from another person’s perspective as long as their perspective lines up with the Word of God; not their personal feelings, opinions, or thoughts. Opinions and feelings are likes noses; we all have one!

So, today remember that what you may feel is right may be right only in your own eyes. Take your feelings, thoughts, opinions, and motives to God in truthful and honest prayer seeking HIS guidance, understanding, and wisdom. God is the ONLY one who can ponder the hearts and intentions of ALL mankind; all stakeholders involved.

Remember, “Greater is He that is in us than he who is in the world!” (I John 4:4) Let’s take everything we do to God in prayer. Wishing you much Peace along the way. Amen.

Remember, God Loves You!

To Love Instuction…

To Love Instruction…

“Whoso loveth instruction (Or, discipline) loveth knowledge (Or, understanding); but he that hateth reproof ( Or, correction) is brutish (Or, rebellious).” (Proverbs 12:1).

Sadly, we are living in a society that makes fun of those who seek a disciplined, submissive, and wholesome lifestyle while it celebrates those who rebel against any type of authority, instruction, or correction.

Too many times a “rebellious” mindset to authority begins early in childhood. Our nation’s jails and correctional institutions are filled with inmates that never accepted being told, “NO,” or what to do…Putting a person with a rebellious attitude and mindset in mainstream society along with other contributing negative factors can produce a very troubled soul.

Fortunately, as a child, I was told that handing out discipline was just like handing out love. My dad always told me, “I don’t discipline the neighbor’s kids because they don’t belong to me, but I discipline you because you belong to me and I want what’s best for you.” Because of my dad’s approach to discipline I grew up with a healthy attitude of acceptance towards authority. Sadly, I fear many of our youth today are missing this healthy attitude towards discipline and the ability to receive the word, “NO” without argument. Unfortunately, this negative attitude towards authority and discipline is making its way into our schools, universities, work places, government, and even our churches.

Many today will not endeavor (make an effort) to keep the unity or peace unless they “get their own way.” The need for cooperation, team work, compromise, seeing the bigger picture, or self-reflection is not taken into consideration. Many people would rather see discord, conflict, and confusion rather than seeking instruction, knowledge, or even reproof. As the Bible plainly teaches, none of us are perfect and we all need instruction and correction from time to time.

As Christians, it should be our attitude to welcome instruction and correction into our lives as it will also bring forth knowledge, experience, and wisdom. Being willing to accept a little warranted instruction here and there can spread great peace, unity, and joy for everyone involved.

So, the next time something doesn’t work out your way instead of getting upset or mad, ask our LORD to show you how you can use it to better gain knowledge and understanding. In doing so, you are demonstrating wisdom and your love for instruction.

Are You a Thief?

Are You a Thief?

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy….(

John 10:10 a)

“Are you a thief?” Before you answer, “No” to that question, you might want to reconsider. First, let’s look at who a thief is and what a thief does…

The basic definition of a “thief” is one who steals or robs something that doesn’t belong to them. A thief is only interested in satisfying his or her own desire at any given expense. So, you might answer once again, “Well, that’s not me; I’m not a thief.” Wait a minute; let’s dig deeper.

A thief basically “takes” things away from others. A professional thief can break into a resident or business in a matter of minutes taking away many valuable assets. When the owner(s) return they are devastated over their losses. And, as good as our law enforcement officials may be many times stolen items are never recovered or returned.

Now, let’s look closer at other ways “things” can be taken away or stolen from us against our will. Have you ever been having a good day when you receive an unexpected phone call from a very negative person and suddenly your Joy is gone? Joy taken. Have you ever been excited about a situation or matter when those around you don’t share in your enthusiasm and suddenly you feel your intrinsic motivation draining from your soul? Enthusiasm taken. Have you ever thought you had a friend or relative whom you could confide until one day you discover that they have been talking badly about you behind your back and sharing all of your secrets? Confidence taken. Have you ever offered a smile, friendly gesture, or kind word to someone and they failed to reciprocate on any level? Warm heart taken.

See, a thief can be responsible for taking away more things from us than just physical belongings. In the New Testament book of John, Jesus calls Satan a thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy. It is a professional thief, Satan, who steals our Joy, kills our Enthusiasms, and destroys our Confidence in others and within ourselves. Thieves can even steal, kill, and destroy a person’s self-esteem, positive outlook on life, and many times a person’s love and enjoyment of life. Thieves love to destroy by taking…

Without realizing it, you could actually be a thief robbing and stealing positive energies and positive emotions away from those around you or even people you pass on the street. Your negative attitudes and/or self-centeredness could be stealing away and destroying someone else’s life, joy, self-value, peace-of-mind, and self-esteem. That’s right…A thief will even attempt to steal away a person’s self-esteem leaving them feeling worthless, hopeless, and wondering what’s the use. Remember, nothing good comes from a thief!

There’s only one way to stop a thief…Put a “guard” on your heart and over your life. The next time that devilish old thief comes prowling around your door take the Word of God out and put it right into his or her face and shoot away! Let the thief know that your JOY is grounded in God’s Word and God’s strength. Let that old thief know that your enthusiasm comes directly from God’s throne on high. And, let that old thief know that you are going to trust God with your inner feelings, emotions, and secrets instead of that person you just met a few days ago or weeks ago; no matter how friendly or safe they seem to be…Let God be your best friend in everything; then ALL of your secrets will be forever safe…

And lastly, don’t let a thief cheat you out of another second of blessings. You are a child of the King…Lift up your head; give the world a smile…If your smile is sincere and your unselfish gestures are filled with gladness of heart then it doesn’t matter how the person or persons respond, because GOD sees and hears all…Your rewards are great in heaven! The rewards and recognitions we receive here on earth will one day fade away, but our Heavenly rewards will be forever! Let your treasures be in Heaven and let your heart be where your treasures are!

Now, let me ask the question again, “Are you a thief?” I hope not. I hope that you are living your life in such a way that you don’t go around attempting to steal, rob, kill, or destroy another person’s life, their dreams, hopes, faith, or reputation…I also hope you don’t try to steal people’s joy, happiness, or peace of mind…After all, God himself “hates” sin and taking away from someone what doesn’t belong to you is a sin…

Trying to take away, steal, kill, or destroy a person’s Joy, Love, Peace, Hope, Faith, and Trust are all works of a thief; the master thief…So, be real careful the next time you put someone down or try to harm them with any type of verbal communications. Because, any way you put it the works of a thief are the direct works of the enemy; God’s enemy; Satan. Don’t be a thief!!!

If It Had Not Been the Lord…

“If It Had Not Been the Lord…”

Psalm 124 begins by saying, “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side.” Have you ever wondered what your life might be like “If it had not been for the LORD on your side?” I know I have. First of all, my soul would be doomed and forever lost. But, thanks be unto our LORD JESUS CHRIST, my soul has been redeemed. Second, if it wasn’t for the LORD on my side I would not know Peace. Only our LORD can grant us peace in the midst of a very chaotic world where tribulations and daily trials exists. Third, I would not know Agape Love if it was not for my LORD being on my side. God is Love and those who come to Him know Him through Love and are granted an Agape Love for the brethren as it is taught in the book of I John. To know God is to know unselfish Love.

In addition to knowing the LORD is on my side in these areas, I am also very thankful and grateful to know my LORD as my Great Protector. Israel depended upon the LORD to protect them against their enemies. They knew that without the LORD’s protection they could be easily “given over as prey” and devoured from the earth. That’s the same way it is with Christians today. Without the LORD’s protection, we can easily become “prey” through other people’s verbal assaults, gossip, and emotional abuse.

Sadly, there are people in this world who are filled with hate, malice, anger, and condemnation for those around them. These people persecute rather than offer comfort. They boldly attack people with their harsh and angry words and unwillingness to demonstrate God’s love and forgiveness. They would rather keep a spirit of conflict and adversity thriving rather than promote a spirit of peace and unity. But, this is not what God wants for His people. And, this is one of the many reasons why I am thankful that the Lord is on my side.

Israel had enemies in the Old Testament Bible days and they still have enemies today. As a Christian, you can expect to have enemies all of your life as well. The world did not accept Jesus and they will not accept His followers. Psalms 124:7-8 says, “Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.” Yes; our help comes in the Name of the Lord!

Today, you may be facing an unexpected enemy in your own life; someone or a group of many who relentlessly provoke injustices towards you no matter how hard you have tried to reconcile their indifferences. In the name of Christ Jesus our LORD give them over unto HIM and let Him be your Protector against their wicked schemes, verbal assaults, and emotional persecutions. Then, you can say like Israel did, “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side….” ONLY the LORD can deliver us from our enemies…

Oh, such sweet, blessed Peace to have the LORD on our side. Oh, my friend, today, put your Trust in the LORD; our Heavenly Father, in the blessed name of Jesus. Let the LORD be your Protector in ALL things and areas of your life. As the Bible teaches, “If GOD be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). Then, you, too, can testify, “If it had not been the LORD who was on my side…” Amen.

God’s Will…Really?

God’s Will…Really?

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. (Isaiah 55:8 KJV)

So often, we say that we desire and want God’s will in our lives, but do we “really” understand what God’s will might be?

Have you ever thought that while we are “seeking” and “searching” for God’s will for our life that we are actually living it moment by moment? Every moment that we, as committed Christian believers, live is NOT living outside of God’s will for our lives…As a matter of fact Jesus prayed, “Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). And, if you will recall, that didn’t stop his persecutions, rejections, beatings, or crucifixion…Asking for God’s will in our lives does not “spare” us from the good, bad, or ugly…

Asking for God’s will in our lives is more about surrendering to “FAITH” than getting things our way…As Christians we are taught by Scripture that, Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not YET seen (Hebrews 11:1)…As Christians we must learn to conduct and discipline our lives as, ”believing that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). So, finding God’s will for our lives has absolutely nothing to do with getting all of our prayers answered the way we would like or prefer them to be answered…It’s actually about accepting life as it happens as being what God has purposed, planned, and allowed for our lives at the present moment…

Don’t fret or worry. I know how difficult and challenging this can be. I have been living through a particular family situation that has gone on for over ten years without being resolved…As a matter of fact it seemingly continues to decline and grow wearier with each passing day. I have bombarded Heaven day and night with both my prayers and tears without seeing the matter get any better. I have prayed scriptures over the matter. I have sought the prayers of others whom I felt I could confide; and sadly even a few of them betrayed my trust. I have seen 1AM, 2AM, 3AM, and 4AM come and go night after night without one single indication that the situation is getting even close to being resolved…It goes beyond my human reasoning and abilities to understand or comprehend the complexities of it all…God just continues to remain SILENT regarding the matter…And, it doesn’t appear to bother the others involved one tiny bit…So, I continue to live day by day feeling the blunt end of the heavy burden and major disappointments of it all…Time and days that can never be gained back while here on Earth.

So, this year I have resolved myself to finding a place of “Acceptance” regarding the whole thing. A place where I will just PRAISE the LORD anyway no matter the continued dismal outcome…It grieves me to no end knowing that if the matter is not resolved very soon that I will miss out on precious family quality time, happenings, and events…But, what else can I do? Besides sending up my daily prayers I have jumped through every hoop and walked every plank set before me…But, none of my efforts have brought forth restitution or fellowship…As the Bible teaches, I have sought Peace, Love, Mercy, Forgiveness, Restitution, and Fellowship, but without positive results…The other parties involved simply refuse to budge, even though they claim to be Christians serving God with their lives…I have resolved that they have a “will” too, and their “will” is that this matter be “not” resolved; not at this time anyway…Truthfully, I can no longer judge what God allows and doesn’t allow for someone else’s life. He knows the hearts of all men…

So, finding God’s will in this particular matter, or in any other daily matter, comes down to “acceptance-by- faith.” As the age-old Serenity Prayer says:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.
–Reinhold Niebuhr

In 2014, may we all be reminded within our hearts and minds to live each day knowing that God’s thoughts are not our thoughts; neither are our ways His ways. (Isaiah 55:8 KJV) And, may we each one find the Serenity Path to guide our steps along the way. God Bless You…

Time to Smell the Roses…

Time to Smell the Roses

Question: Which do you spend most of your time smelling? Roses? Or, the disgusting odors of life?”

Face it…Life happens, and when it does it can bring about some of the most disgusting odors a person can imagine. I have come to the conclusion that many people have been sadly “conditioned” to spend most of their days and nights smelling the disgusting odors of life rather than the nicer, more pleasant aromas of life. There’s a really good point I want to make in this blog but it might get a little stinky along the way! Hold your nose if you must, but I believe it will be worth the effort!

God designed man and beast alike to digest and eliminate those things that enter into the body; both liquids and solids. However, the discarded waste can carry with it intolerable, lingering and disgusting odors. No one actually prefers to stay around disgusting, lingering, stinking odors, but unfortunately they tend to occur or happen each and every day of our lives…either of our own makings, or of someone else’s. I think you get the picture.

Life as we know it can become a metaphor to such occurrences…Sometimes, life just stinks…we can’t help it…it just happens…The sad thing is that life, at times, can stink so much, and what seems like for so long, that we become accustomed to the odor and we just start living in it…Other people can smell it, but we have become so immune to its disgusting smell that it becomes a part of who we are. The odor settles on our clothes and into our garments…Everywhere we go the intolerable odor goes with us…People begin to notice it…They back off…They shy away…They eventually stop coming around…We are eventually left alone and really don’t understand why. Because, we simply do not notice or recognize the odor any longer that surrounds us. It has become a part of our life; who we are…How truly sad when this happens.

Life’s odors come in a variety of shapes and sizes…Misery; defeat; anger; depression; bitterness; unforgiveness; hate; malice; resentment; jealousies, unreal expectations, perfection, disappointments; set-backs; sickness and diseases; losses; financial disasters; divorce; miscarriages; wayward children; estranged relationships; unexpected change of directions within our lives; or days when it simply rains on our planned picnics or parades…Life, as we know it, can stink…Life happens.

But, don’t forget…God designed mankind to get “rid” of those things that enter “into” our lives; even those things that can and often do bring harm into our lives. Face it, if we don’t get rid of the digested liquids and solid foods that we ingest into our mouths, we will eventually, and very quickly at times, die…The same is true when “life’s odors” linger in our lives…they can make us very sick, toxic, and eventually die…Depression, and all of its ugly “cousins,” is one of life’s odors that can poison our minds and bodies to the point of death. Oh, the awful and terrible odor of depression, anxiety, fears, concerns, and worries…

What are we to do? The answer is quite simple, but it does take “effort” on our part…We learn to use God’s AIR FRESHENERS to rid our lives of the lingering odors that have occurred; some from our own makings and some from others. Just like the many fragrances we can purchase at the store to spruce up our homes, God has provided different fragrances as well to spruce up our lives…The fragrances of “Gratefulness,” “Forgiveness,” “Understanding,” “Kindness,” “Respect and Honor,” “Love,” “Joy,” and “Peace that Passes All Understanding” (One of my favorite aromas!) are available to us…God’s Word is filled with fragrances that can and will eliminate those old nasty odors of life that spoil our days and nights and keep us from “smelling the roses” of life!

It’s your choice…You can continue living in the lingering odors of “life” as it happens or grab a can of God’s Air Freshener and Spray, Spray, Spray until the odors are all gone…Just remember one very important point…As long as we live in this life we will encounter odors of all sorts and natures, but it’s our choice if we wish to hang around those toxic odors too long or spray them away with God’s unique and patented design Holy Air Fresheners manufactured and shipped to us straight from Heaven’s Door!!!

There’s a huge market today that uses “aroma therapy” to reduce all kinds of stresses and promote relaxation…As the Bible teaches, “There’s nothing new under the sun.” (Ecc. 3)…God has known from the beginning of time that toxic odors can and will foul up our lives and turn them into sewage drains…No one wants to live next to a sewage drain! The Old Testament is filled with examples of God’s people offering sacrifices of, “Sweet smelling Savors,” unto God…I don’t know about you, but I have some de-odorizing to do in my own life…It’s time to get rid of the toxic odors and fill my life with God’s Holy Air Fresheners…Yes; It’s Time to Smell the Roses!

A New Path

A New Path

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105 KJV)

This morning I told myself that I have been walking on this “old path” for way, way too long…This old path is burning the souls of my bare feet with hot burning blisters, sores, and scars…They are swollen, painful, bruised, and full of cuts and scratches from all the thorns, briars, and rugged rocky terrain. The old path of worry, fears, concerns, anxieties, impatience, cares, and woes of this life…My feet desire A New Path…A joyful path…A path that is illuminated by the Word of God and the Light of Christ. Not that I haven’t been a “Believer” in Christ Jesus and a practicing Christian for several decades but that I have allowed myself to get entangled in some on-going cares and woes of this life that have stolen my JOY and weakened my faith…I don’t want that anymore…So, this morning I prayed unto Jesus asking Him to put my feet on a New Path…His Path…The one that promises His Grace, His Mercy, and His Peace that passes all understanding.

As I meditated upon God’s Word, I saw myself putting on His Garments…His mighty belt of Truth to surround me with His Strength. His Breastplate of Righteousness to know and discern right thoughts and actions from those that are wrong. His Shield of Faith to stop ALL the fiery darts of Satan from bombarding my way. His Helmet of Salvation to guard my thoughts with His thoughts. His Sword of the Spirit which is God’s Words to plant in my heart and spring forth from my mouth…And, His Shoes of Peace to Lighten my way and soothe my journey. After that, I prayed for the Blood of Christ to be applied all over my weary feet to heal them; for with His stripes we are healed. Then, I asked that the old path be destroyed, broken up, and done away with so that no one before me or after me will be able to walk down that path again. I don’t want any of my adult children or grandchildren to ever discover this “old path” and try to walk down it…I want them to see “Meemaw” walking on God’s Glorious Path filled with God’s Grace, Mercy, and Peace.

As I prayed, I felt as if God was standing right beside me hearing, listening, and answering my prayers. He has seen the battle. He has seen the scars. He has seen the heart of the whole matter and knows its time for me to leave the “old path” and walk on his newly laid out path filled with HIS Faith, Assurance, Hope, Trust, and Peace…As I prayed, I could see the “old path” in my mind breaking apart as if it no longer existed and the “New Path” illuminating before me. I could feel as if my feet were being soothed, cooled, healed, and touched by the Master’s Hand the same way as he touched and washed his Disciples feet the night he gave His life on Calvary. Oh yes, I am His child and He is My Lord…I will Trust in Him at all times. Let His Words be my Path…

Like me, you, too, may have been facing haunting concerns, fears, worries, and cares that were practically paralyzing your ever thought and step. But, thanks be unto God we can call on Jesus anytime to remove us from the “old path” of worry and cares and place our blood-bought redeemed feet on a brighter, new path filled with God’s blessed Assurance, Goodness, Grace, Mercy, and Peace…May you be clothed today in God’s Armor of Salvation as you journey down A New Path…
