Are You a Thief?

Are You a Thief?

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy….(

John 10:10 a)

“Are you a thief?” Before you answer, “No” to that question, you might want to reconsider. First, let’s look at who a thief is and what a thief does…

The basic definition of a “thief” is one who steals or robs something that doesn’t belong to them. A thief is only interested in satisfying his or her own desire at any given expense. So, you might answer once again, “Well, that’s not me; I’m not a thief.” Wait a minute; let’s dig deeper.

A thief basically “takes” things away from others. A professional thief can break into a resident or business in a matter of minutes taking away many valuable assets. When the owner(s) return they are devastated over their losses. And, as good as our law enforcement officials may be many times stolen items are never recovered or returned.

Now, let’s look closer at other ways “things” can be taken away or stolen from us against our will. Have you ever been having a good day when you receive an unexpected phone call from a very negative person and suddenly your Joy is gone? Joy taken. Have you ever been excited about a situation or matter when those around you don’t share in your enthusiasm and suddenly you feel your intrinsic motivation draining from your soul? Enthusiasm taken. Have you ever thought you had a friend or relative whom you could confide until one day you discover that they have been talking badly about you behind your back and sharing all of your secrets? Confidence taken. Have you ever offered a smile, friendly gesture, or kind word to someone and they failed to reciprocate on any level? Warm heart taken.

See, a thief can be responsible for taking away more things from us than just physical belongings. In the New Testament book of John, Jesus calls Satan a thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy. It is a professional thief, Satan, who steals our Joy, kills our Enthusiasms, and destroys our Confidence in others and within ourselves. Thieves can even steal, kill, and destroy a person’s self-esteem, positive outlook on life, and many times a person’s love and enjoyment of life. Thieves love to destroy by taking…

Without realizing it, you could actually be a thief robbing and stealing positive energies and positive emotions away from those around you or even people you pass on the street. Your negative attitudes and/or self-centeredness could be stealing away and destroying someone else’s life, joy, self-value, peace-of-mind, and self-esteem. That’s right…A thief will even attempt to steal away a person’s self-esteem leaving them feeling worthless, hopeless, and wondering what’s the use. Remember, nothing good comes from a thief!

There’s only one way to stop a thief…Put a “guard” on your heart and over your life. The next time that devilish old thief comes prowling around your door take the Word of God out and put it right into his or her face and shoot away! Let the thief know that your JOY is grounded in God’s Word and God’s strength. Let that old thief know that your enthusiasm comes directly from God’s throne on high. And, let that old thief know that you are going to trust God with your inner feelings, emotions, and secrets instead of that person you just met a few days ago or weeks ago; no matter how friendly or safe they seem to be…Let God be your best friend in everything; then ALL of your secrets will be forever safe…

And lastly, don’t let a thief cheat you out of another second of blessings. You are a child of the King…Lift up your head; give the world a smile…If your smile is sincere and your unselfish gestures are filled with gladness of heart then it doesn’t matter how the person or persons respond, because GOD sees and hears all…Your rewards are great in heaven! The rewards and recognitions we receive here on earth will one day fade away, but our Heavenly rewards will be forever! Let your treasures be in Heaven and let your heart be where your treasures are!

Now, let me ask the question again, “Are you a thief?” I hope not. I hope that you are living your life in such a way that you don’t go around attempting to steal, rob, kill, or destroy another person’s life, their dreams, hopes, faith, or reputation…I also hope you don’t try to steal people’s joy, happiness, or peace of mind…After all, God himself “hates” sin and taking away from someone what doesn’t belong to you is a sin…

Trying to take away, steal, kill, or destroy a person’s Joy, Love, Peace, Hope, Faith, and Trust are all works of a thief; the master thief…So, be real careful the next time you put someone down or try to harm them with any type of verbal communications. Because, any way you put it the works of a thief are the direct works of the enemy; God’s enemy; Satan. Don’t be a thief!!!

The “Lifter of My Head”

“But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.” (Psalm 3:3)

How many times in your life have you needed “someone” to “lift up your head?” Perhaps, your head was heavy and bowed low with sorrows or disappointments. Or, perhaps you had received bad news about a friend or loved one; or even about yourself.

Troubles and sorrows can overtake us in any given moment or situation. But, there is ONE who is the “lifter up” of our heads…Our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ. As any believer of the Word (Bible) will tell you God doesn’t always deliver us from the many storms and trials in Life, but HE will always be with us to see us through to the other side.

King David said, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD sees us through.” (Psalm 34:19). Today, you may be facing an unprecedented time of trouble in your life. Let me encourage you NOT to despair. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob who guided the Children of Israel to the Promised Land is the same God, through Jesus Christ, who is leading and guiding His children (those who Believe) today.

God is the same Yesterday, Today, and Forever…I encourage you to let God be your Shield of Faith, your Glory of Hope, and the “Lifter Up” of you head. Then, you, too can say as the Psalmist, “I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me…Yes; the LORD sustained me…Salvation belongeth unto the LORD; thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah” (Psalm 3:8).

How sweet to face each day knowing that the LORD is my shield, my glory, and the lifter of my head. Amen

“In His Time…”

“In His Time…”

Waiting, and being patient while we wait, is not always easy. We live in an instant society. Modern-day technology has served us well, but it has also left us paralyzed with the inability to “wait” without murmuring and complaining. Nevertheless, no matter how “fast” man can accomplish certain tasks, it cannot ever change GOD’s ways, purpose, and plan for mankind…”Stand Still and See the Salvation of the Lord.” (Exodus 14:13)

Face it, standing still and being patient while God moves on a situation, matter, or person can cause the most patient of saints to cringe just a little. We want God to “hurry up” and make things right or resolve the matter as quickly as possible. We don’t like discomfort, because we are a society of comfort. It may be difficult to understand this concept, but God is more interested in building our Faith than He is in making us feel comfortable!

As hard as we might try to please God with our efforts, the Bible teaches us, “Without faith it is impossible to please God…” (Hebrews 11:6). And, the Bible also teaches us that “Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1). While we are “waiting” for that particular situation, matter, or person to change, God is changing us! He is strengthening us and conditioning us to place our HOPE and FAITH in GOD who will take care of things in HIS time and in HIS way; not ours. That’s not always an easy lesson or standard to learn and accomplish…We must learn to wait on God and not try to “fix” things ourselves. The Bible is filled with examples of where “man” tried to “fix” things only to make them worse or create even a bigger mess.

Today, you may be “waiting” on God to fix or resolve a matter. If so, I want to encourage you to “Stand still and see the Salvation of the Lord.” Stand steady in your Faith. Stand steady in your prayers. Stand steady in your faithfulness…And, you are never standing taller in the presence of God than when you are bending your knees in prayer! The Psalmist said, “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. (Psalm 27:14). Remember, ALL things work together for those who love the Lord who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)…”In His Time…” “In His Time…” Amen…

Remember (while you are waiting) that GOD LOVES YOU!

The Offense of the Cross

The Offense of the Cross

On Thursday, November 7, 2013, many of us passionately and lovingly watched our beloved, ninety-five years old, Rev. Billy Graham render a heartfelt message of Hope to all Americans…”It’s Still the Blood of Jesus that sets man free.” Thank you Dr. Graham for sticking to the Bible, for standing on the Truth, and for declaring that none other but Jesus Christ can take away our sins and make us whole again.

If our nation needs to hear any message of Hope, any words of encouragement, or any words of divine wisdom it needs to hear about Jesus and the Cross. The Apostle Paul stated, “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” (I Corinthians 1:18 KJV). No other man-made religion possesses the Power of the Cross that takes away our sins, pays our sin debt, and reconciles sinful man back to a Holy, Righteous God. And, no other man was completely SINLESS and qualified to die upon the Old Rugged Cross than God’s only begotten Son, Jesus (John 3:16).

In addition to the absolute necessity of Jesus’ death on the Cross to pay for mankind’s sins, no other man born unto woman could bring forth the glorious Resurrection Power from the Grave to live and to reign for all eternity but our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…Praise be unto the Name of our Lord…

I can almost see why non-believers and other non-believing religions want to destroy the Gospel of the Cross. They cannot match it nor can they imitate it. Only Christianity can claim the abundant Promises of God through Christ Jesus. For neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12 KJV). Buddha cannot save a man’s soul from Hell. Mohammad cannot save a man’s soul from Hell. Even beloved King David of Israel could not save a man’s soul from Hell. Only through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary can a man’s soul be saved from Hell and delivered from the sinful one, Satan.

Jesus not only can save a man’s soul from death, but in the Name of Jesus both a man and woman alike can find life anew, joyous strength, and power to overcome the wicked one. So many today live in darkness without the Power of Christ Jesus to overcome sin(s) or sin’s debts. Alcoholism is costly. Drug addiction is costly. Fornication is costly. Stealing and Robbery are costly. Lying and Cheating are costly. Murder and Deception are costly. And, it cost Jesus Christ His life to pay the eternal price for these sins and all other manners of rebellion and transgressions against our Holy God. But, through Jesus Christ alone any man or woman willing to call upon His name can find HOPE to overcome sin(s) and to reconcile their life back unto God and enjoy the sweet fellowship and joys of the Lord.

Oh, my friend, you may not know Jesus today as your personal Savior, but you can. Only Trust Him. Only Trust Him…Stop what you are doing and call upon His name. Cry out admitting that you are a sinner lost without hope. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ asking Him to come into your heart and into your life saving you from your sins. Then, go tell someone about your new Faith in God through Jesus. Call a friend who you know to be a Christian. Or, call a Pastor. Call a loved one; a father, mother, sister, or brother to let them know that you have accepted Jesus as your Lord. You will never, never regret your decision and choice to follow Jesus. And, remember without the Cross, Salvation in Jesus would not and could not be possible…Jesus Paid it All; All to Him I Owe; I will Glory in the Cross.

In closing, I want to also encourage you that after you have accepted Jesus Christ into your heart to seek out a home church where the Gospel of Jesus Christ is preached and taught. Church is a place where you can grow in the Lord and a place where you can find fellowship with other believers. Amen…

Fear Not; for I Am With Thee…

“Fear not; for I AM with thee; be not dismayed; for I AM thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of MY righteousness.” (Isaiah 41:10 KJV)

I love the many promises of God. Today, you may be going through a difficult time. You may be facing a situation that you thought would never come into your life. You may even feel that all hope is nearly gone. You could be facing a major sickness or illness. Your financial status could be declining faster than you can manage to hold onto. A loved one or close friend may have turned their back on you without sufficient cause. You may be facing the unexpected loss of a job; or even worse the loss of a precious loved one. These are devastating times in our lives when “man’s words” only offer temporary comfort but they don’t “fix” the hurt or dismay…Even the most sincerest of words seem to fall on barren soil…

But, GOD’s WORDS are NOT man’s words. God’s Words are True and Faithful. His Words have stood the test of time and will continue to do so until the end of time…You needn’t fear for what lies ahead…For, GOD himself will show you the way…It might take time; but time well worth the wait…For, God has a plan for you and for your life that only HE can orchestrate and cause to come to pass.

God sees your tears. God knows your pain. God hears your pleas. And, HE alone can open doors that no man can shut and HE can close doors that no man can open…He can strengthen you. He can help you. And, HE will uphold you with His own Hand of righteousness. You may not know which way to go or which way to turn, but GOD DOES.

Today put your complete and total trust in GOD through His son, Jesus Christ. Fall on your knees in prayer asking HIM to show you the way and to give you the HOPE you need to face each and every day until this season of your life is passed. No, you will not stop missing a loved one who is gone, but the pain will eventually become more bearable. No, you may not get the old job back. But, God may have a better job in store for you…No, the door of opportunity you missed may be gone, but GOD is the Great Creator (ELOHIM) who can “create” new out of HIS own limitless domain.

“Fear Not…”Trust in God today and every day. For in doing so you will find strength to face each day’s dawning knowing that GOD is on your side…And, if God be for us, who can be against us?

New and Improved

New and Improved…

“And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.” (Revelation 21:5 KJV).

We all enjoy having “new” things in our lives. It is even fun to meet “new” people, travel to “new” places, and experience “new” activities and adventures. The word “new” just appeals to our senses. Where would we be without all of the “new” and “improved” products in our lives? New and improved washing detergent? New and improved shampoo? New and improved technology? Our marketing world grosses millions of dollars each year on advertising items that are “new” and “improved.” But, sadly, many of the “new” and “improved” products we try leave us feeling disappointed, frustrated, and aggravated. They don’t live up to their “promised” results.

The same thing can happen when traveling to new places. I remember as a child while traveling on vacation with my parents that we kept seeing a very promising sign every few miles advertising a country store that showcased a real, live bear….My little eyes and imagination were filled anticipation and wonderment. I kept imagining this huge grizzly bear standing ten feet tall fiercely roaring as he delighted a huge crowd of people. I begged and begged my dad to make the turn-off and drive the extra ten miles to the place. When we finally arrived to the greatly advertised location, the store was barely large enough to hold ten people at one time and the bear…well, the poor “old” bear was cooped up in a small cage where he laid on a slab of concrete barely noticing the three people that had gathered. Instead of being thrilled and amazed by this wonder of nature, I left feeling sorry for the bear and hating that my dad now had to drive the ten extra miles back to our route. But, the experience taught me a valuable lesson…”Advertising can be misleading.”

But, notice that God told the Apostle John on the Isle of Patmos that “He” would make “all” things “new,” and his words are “true and faithful.” We can trust in and rely on God’s promises. They won’t disappoint, frustrate, or aggravate us one tiny bit. There are “no” false advertisements with God!!! When God promises something we can take great delight within our expectations and anticipation. I don’t know about you, but knowing that God will make “all” things “new” one futuristic day is exciting!

Even though I cannot imagine what all the “new” things will be like, I do know that God promises that there will be no more tears, sorrows, sicknesses, or death in His “new” world…A “new” and “improved” world that holds many great and exciting promises. So, even though “new” and “improved” can sometimes let us down in our present day life, we can be assured of a “new” and “improved” world ahead for those who put their faith and trust in Christ Jesus…

When It Hurts…

When It Hurts…

Be still and know that I am God…(Psalm 46:10 KJV)

There are times in our lives when “being still” is all we can manage to do. A death of a loved one. The loss of a spouse. The loss of a child. The grief of sorrow and pain. An unrelenting illness….The unknown.  The brokenhearted. The loss of our existenance as we once knew it…All of these render our spirits to yield and submit to a Higher Power; to a Higher Authority, God. And, many times our submission to Him requires us to just stand, be still, wait, and be stilled before the Lord. These are harder, more difficult, times when it just simply Hurts…No way around it. No way through it….Except to Wait before the Lord.

Waiting takes into account second by second; minute by minute; hour by hour; day by day; week by week; month by month; and year by year….Some things just don’t heal themselves overnight or even over a year….Some hurts can remain with us for quite a long, enduring amount of time…But, while we are enduring we can know for certain that GOD is on our side and HE is in control of our lives and our futures.  But, the “hurt” itself will not go away just because we tell it to go away….It walks with us.  It gets into the shower with us.  It rides in the car with us.  It escorts us down the grocery aisle. It sits with us at the ballgame even while we cheer on our team…It makes its presence known unto us… Oh, the agony of this type of “hurt.”

But, thankfully, one day….one wonderful day…our eyes awaken and the hurt is not as bad as it was the day before…We feel and we believe that we can now move on with our lives in spite of what we have suffered.  We know the hurt is still there, but it has taken a backseat to LOVE, JOY, FAITH, and PEACE… Yes; we have experienced God’s waiting room of recovery for our lives and we can now climb down from the table of grief to feel the sunshine on our faces and to hear the birds sing…Our season of hurt and grief has found its place nestled within the memories of our heart….Oh, we can take it out from time to time and still feel and experience its hold upon our lives.  But, thankfully, when we are threw remembering its mark upon us,  we can put it back into its treasured place within our heart and move on with the day…We have arrived to a place where we can better control it than “it” controls us….

Yes; there are times in this life “When It Hurts.”  Oh, how a hug can help the hurt.  Oh, how a precious card or letter can help the hurt.  Oh, how a warm smile and listening ear can help the hurt…But, ONLY GOD can HEAL the hurt….You may be standing still today in God’s recovery room letting Him still your hurt and pain no matter what it is…If so, may God be with you is my prayer.  Or, you may recall a time in your life when you stood still before God and let Him exalt His presence above your pain…Oh, my friend, aren’t we so blessed to have a loving GOD who can “fix” our hurts when they do come into our lives.

Nevertheless, one glorious day, one eternal day, God wil wipe every tear from our eyes. There will be no more grief, pain, sorrow, or death for the former things will be passed away and behold ALL things will be new in that glorious city called Heaven…Until then, let us all learn to “Be still and Know that God is GOD….Amen.

Remember, God Loves You! (Always!)
