In 2015 “Study to Show Thyself Approved…”

Study to show thyself (your own self) approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (II Timothy 2:15 KJV).

If you have one New Year’s resolution that you stick with, I would encourage you to make it daily Bible reading and study.
Notice that the scripture says, “study to show thyself (your own self) approved unto God….” Without Bible study you will never understand nor comprehend how much God really and truly loves you and how much HE wants to be the guide and leader in your life.

There are an innumerable number of things in life all bidding for your time and attention. Nevertheless, only the Bible guides your heart, mind, and life to follow the things of God. Without regular, disciplined study of the Word of God you will never find God’s will for your life nor His Peace that passes all understanding.

There are no hidden secrets, tricks, societies, plans, magic, personal agendas, or “wishes” that can lead you to God. God chose HIS Word to reveal himself…And, God’s Word became flesh through the person Jesus Christ and dwelled among us. (John 1:14). We can only find out about God and His Son Jesus Christ (God manifested in the flesh) through intensive reading and study of His Word, the Holy Bible.

Many a non-believer and skeptic have come away “believing” after reading and studying the Bible. It is still the number one best-selling book of all time and will continue being so until Christ returns.

Ask yourself this question. Why fill your mind and life with manmade philosophies that are unproven rather than filling your mind and life with God’s Word, the Bible? Only the Word of God contains The Truth, The Way, and The Life which pleases God and settles a man’s or woman’s own heart.

My friend, I encourage and beg you to “Break Away” to find God in all things by reading and studying God’s Word for yourself. Make reading and studying God’s Word the number one priority in your life. Read and study for yourself to find out who God really is and discover your purpose for life. Amen.

Remember, God Loves You.

God is Light…

God is Light

“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is Light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (I John 1:5 KJV)

Nothing evil can come from God. God is Love. God is Light. God is Good. Because of the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden, we live in a world that possesses the knowledge and manifestation of both good and evil…Yet; evil is NOT of God…It is not God who moves upon a man’s heart and spirit to bring forth evil acts of violence, unkindness, hate, malice, or harm…It is the direct influence of God’s enemy, Satan.

Back in the 70’s there was a popular TV actor who coined the phrase, “The Devil made me do it.” In many ways he was right. The Devil does influence bad judgment and wrongful actions on our part. But, he doesn’t “make” us do them. Satan only plants such evil thoughts into our hearts and mind, but we decide whether or not to act upon them. I once heard a young lady say, “Well, if you’re going to think it, you might as well do it!” What a dreadful thought! Thankfully, I had the opportunity to share some insight regarding her dangerous philosophy. I explained to her that she could sit around all day long thinking about and pondering planting a garden. In her mind and thoughts, she could clear the area, plow the area, and even plant seeds in the area. But, she would NEVER reap a harvest! To reap a harvest, she would actually have to perform the needed tasks; not just “think” about them. Fortunately, she agreed with my words of insight. As children of God, we must learn to discern thoughts of “darkness” from thoughts of “light.” How do we do that? By knowing God’s Word…If our thoughts do not line up with God’s word, then they are not from God…

God’s Word is a LIGHT unto our path. The more we know God’s word, the more our pathway is illuminated; for God’s ways are not hid from us…There is no darkness at all in God…(no evil).

Today, you may be in need of guidance or direction…Just remember, you never have to walk in darkness when you are walking with God…God’s Path can always be found when measured by His Word…

Remember, God Loves You!

A New Path

A New Path

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105 KJV)

This morning I told myself that I have been walking on this “old path” for way, way too long…This old path is burning the souls of my bare feet with hot burning blisters, sores, and scars…They are swollen, painful, bruised, and full of cuts and scratches from all the thorns, briars, and rugged rocky terrain. The old path of worry, fears, concerns, anxieties, impatience, cares, and woes of this life…My feet desire A New Path…A joyful path…A path that is illuminated by the Word of God and the Light of Christ. Not that I haven’t been a “Believer” in Christ Jesus and a practicing Christian for several decades but that I have allowed myself to get entangled in some on-going cares and woes of this life that have stolen my JOY and weakened my faith…I don’t want that anymore…So, this morning I prayed unto Jesus asking Him to put my feet on a New Path…His Path…The one that promises His Grace, His Mercy, and His Peace that passes all understanding.

As I meditated upon God’s Word, I saw myself putting on His Garments…His mighty belt of Truth to surround me with His Strength. His Breastplate of Righteousness to know and discern right thoughts and actions from those that are wrong. His Shield of Faith to stop ALL the fiery darts of Satan from bombarding my way. His Helmet of Salvation to guard my thoughts with His thoughts. His Sword of the Spirit which is God’s Words to plant in my heart and spring forth from my mouth…And, His Shoes of Peace to Lighten my way and soothe my journey. After that, I prayed for the Blood of Christ to be applied all over my weary feet to heal them; for with His stripes we are healed. Then, I asked that the old path be destroyed, broken up, and done away with so that no one before me or after me will be able to walk down that path again. I don’t want any of my adult children or grandchildren to ever discover this “old path” and try to walk down it…I want them to see “Meemaw” walking on God’s Glorious Path filled with God’s Grace, Mercy, and Peace.

As I prayed, I felt as if God was standing right beside me hearing, listening, and answering my prayers. He has seen the battle. He has seen the scars. He has seen the heart of the whole matter and knows its time for me to leave the “old path” and walk on his newly laid out path filled with HIS Faith, Assurance, Hope, Trust, and Peace…As I prayed, I could see the “old path” in my mind breaking apart as if it no longer existed and the “New Path” illuminating before me. I could feel as if my feet were being soothed, cooled, healed, and touched by the Master’s Hand the same way as he touched and washed his Disciples feet the night he gave His life on Calvary. Oh yes, I am His child and He is My Lord…I will Trust in Him at all times. Let His Words be my Path…

Like me, you, too, may have been facing haunting concerns, fears, worries, and cares that were practically paralyzing your ever thought and step. But, thanks be unto God we can call on Jesus anytime to remove us from the “old path” of worry and cares and place our blood-bought redeemed feet on a brighter, new path filled with God’s blessed Assurance, Goodness, Grace, Mercy, and Peace…May you be clothed today in God’s Armor of Salvation as you journey down A New Path…

Do You Feel Blessed Today?

Do You Feel Blessed Today….

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.   (Psalms 33:12 KJV)

Do you feel blessed today? You should…Today, is September 11, 2012.  If you live in the United States of America you know the exact spot you were standing eleven years ago when the first plane flew into the Twin Towers in New York City…Just Like the day we all learned of President Kennedy’s assasination…we know where we were and what we were doing at the very moment…And, the memories of such times remain with us for a life time.

But, despite the more difficult, challenging, and tragic times of our lives and in the life of our nation…We are a blessed people; and a blessed nation…

Why?  Because the foundation of our nation was built upon God and the freedom to Worship God as He leads us in our daily lives…”Freedom of Speech.”  “Freedom of Religion.”   But, what united our “foundational” walk-of-faith?  Answer:  God’s Holy Word, the blessed Bible…And, at the time of our founding fathers’ lives that would most likely be the blessed King James Version.  Even though I read and study other versions, there is only ONE King James Version and when I need deep spiritual strength and guidance, I go to none other to read and meditate upon God’s Words to mankind.

Even in our personal sicknesses, failures, trials, burdens, and tragedies, we are a blessed and most fortunate people…As a country, we have many wonderful natural resources…We have opportunities to be a resourceful nation…A properous nation…And, even though these treasures are currently being challenged, God is and always will be on the Throne and in control…Government does not have the final authority in any of our lives…God does…And, God can make a way when the government can not…And, God can use the government to bless our lives when it is in HIs will to do so…

On September 11, 2001,  first responders in New York City risked, and many loss, their lives for people who were either living in or visiting our nation that day.  They did not rush in and ask, “Are you a citizen?”  No, they rushed into burning buildings to help any and all that they could…to the point of losing their own lives.  God, have mercy…And, today please give a special blessing to those families left behind.  God is the ultimate first, second, and tertiary responder in our Spiritual lives; if only we let Him…He is always willing to save and rescue our lives from sin and the flames of Hell…God, through Jesus Christ, my ultimate first responder…

Even with such tragic occasions as 9/11 in the history of our nation, we are still blessed and remain the greatest nation on Earth (paralleled only to Israel…God’s chosen people).

Today….Let us stop for a moment to pray for all those involved on that day and to count our blessings; one by one…Oh, how our hearts will be uplifted as we reflect upon the greatest nation on Earth and the Greatest God…The Greatest First Responder of All Time and Eternity…Our God, the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord….Amen.”

Remember, God Loves You….(In honor of 9/11/2001).

Teaching To Love

Teaching to Love…

“That they may TEACH the young women to exhort self-control, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be modest, pure, keepers at home (taking care of the home), good (kind), submissive to their OWN husbands, that the Word of God be not made void (or discarded).  Titus 2:4-5

Today’s blog title does not read, “Loving to Teach…” It reads, “TEACHING TO LOVE!”  Before I retired from teaching public school, I recall spending many hours writing out and designing lesson plans geared towards “TEACHING”  my students a specific standard or objective in order to reach a specific goal.

Knowing that all students do not learn in the same way, a truly well-prepared lesson plan contains various methods and styles of teaching.  Some students are audio learners, while others are visual learners, while others are kinesthetic, and some a mixture of all three.  To effectively teach ALL students, a dedicated and gifted teacher will include all three styles and methods of  teaching and learning in order to achieve optimal results. This style of teaching is NOT the exception but the rule of good, basic teaching and learning.

Likewise, one will find the word, “teach”   throughout the Scriptures.  The simple, yet sometimes complex, term “teach” can be defined as,  “to instruct,” “to train,” “to enlighten,” “to impart knowledge or skills through instruction or example.”  Any parent knows that the best way to “teach” or “instruct” our children on how to do a specific chore is to “model” it on a daily, regular basis.  As a child, I don’t recall my mother verbally “instructing” me how to do certain tasks or chores as much as I simply recall “watching” her do them on a daily and regular basis.

“Teaching” specific objectives is so vitally important to our lives that God used the term numerous times throughout the Bible.  Take for example…The Bibles speaks of “teaching” us to Love.  No one has to teach us how to have a temper-tandrum…just take something away from a baby and you’ll quickly see what I mean!  No one has to teach us how to tell a lie….But, God instructs us to “teach” one another how to “love.”  Do you mean that Love and the ability to Love is something that can be taught, instructed, trained, and modeled?  Yes; according to the Scriptures.  The Book of Titus tells the “older” women to teach the “younger” women how to be modest and discreet, love their own husbands, love their own children, to be keepers of (take care of) their own homes, and to be submissive to their own husbands.”

Sadly, I’m afraid so many are NOT being taught the things that God instructed us to teach: Love, Charity, Kindness, Respect, Purity… For decades now, divorce rates have been on the rise, women have become more and more overt in their mannerisms and behaviors, increaesed unwedded pregnancies, more and more children are being left to care for and raise themselves, and submission to ones own husband….Well, that concept in today’s society is considered as being an “old-fashioned” wise-tale or fable!  In one way or the other I fear that we are all “guilty” of NOT teaching, modeling, and/or instructing our younger women and men in the things of God….And, it shows.

In the Book of Titus ( a very good book for principles on daily living!), it also reads, “Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts (pleasures), we should live soberly (modest, pure, and sane), righteously (doing what is right in God’s eyes), and godly (according to God’s teachings), in this present world.  (2:12).

With so much alarming RealityTV bombarding our air-ways along with all the “Jerry Springer” crowds, what our children are seeing today is a far, far cry from God’s Biblical teachings.   For example…Our society has attempted to reduce “marriage” to selecting your future spouse from a group of men or women after “comparing” them on the basis of pre-marital sex and wild partying!  Sadly, shows such as The Bachelor continue to be top-raters by viewers.

I fear that until we return to the teachings of God as well as modeling HIS instructions on a regular basis, our society will continue to decline in morals and values.  Ask yourself this question, “What is your life teaching or modeling today?”  Is it teaching or modeling God’s instructions…Or, is it teaching the lost, ungodly world’s concepts?

(In closing, I’m glad that there are still individual people, families, churches, and organizations out there teaching God’s ways.  This past weekend, two of my grandsons attended a Purity Conference with the teens and youth from their church.  With so much impurities being modeled and demonstrated within our society, families, and even some churches, I’m thankful and grateful for those who continue to contribute their money, time, talents, and skills towards helping our younger men and women to know a better way; God’s way.  Amen.)
