Ask for the Old Paths

“Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.” (Jeremiah 6:16).

With the news media focusing its attention lately on gender identity do you feel as if the “old ways” of life are dissipating and disappearing?

Sadly, this past week I overheard a news anchor person state, “The gender of a person at birth does not dictate their gender identity.” Well, if that’s the case, then what does?

It appears to me that the WORLD has gone MAD! Each day the WORLD sinks farther and farther into wickedness, darkness, and sin…And, we, God’s people, draw closer and closer to the return of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The signs are all around us.

In Jeremiah’s day the people also rebelled against God and sought their “own paths” which means they rejected God’s ways and chose what was “right in their own eyes.”

God warned the rejecting people over and over to return to HIS ways, the old paths, but they refused by saying, “We will not walk therein.” That’s exactly what society are doing today; refusing to walk in God’s ways and openly persecuting those who do.

The world’s search for temporary peace-of-mind is always sensual, selfish, and sinful. Their peace comes from pleasure-seeking whether it comes in the form of a pill, bottle, or other self-destructive addictive means. But, choosing God’s ways (the old paths) bring about HIS PEACE that passes all understanding. And, as I recently heard someone say, “You can’t know God’s PEACE that passes ALL understanding until it passes ALL understanding!”

As a Believer and Follower of Jesus Christ, what a JOY it is to walk in the “old paths” leaning and trusting on God.

Today, you may be in need of a long-term Peace that passes all understanding. You may be disgusted with all the hype of the news media and the ever-increasing wickedness of the world. If so, let me encourage you to remain at the feet of Jesus and walk the precious “old path” that began at the foot of the Cross.

What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Thank you, Sweet Jesus, for the Old Path that leads me directly to you. Amen.

Remember, God Loves You!

A Purposed Life…

A purposed Life…“I will guard (take heed to) my ways lest I sin with my tongue.” (Psalm 39)

Nothing gives us more trouble in life than our own tongue. And, the Bible teaches that our words come from our thoughts that come from the heart which is deceptively wicked above all things (Jeremiah 17:9).

So, how do we overcome these negative aspects of our life? First, by placing our life in the Hands and under control of the Holy Spirit by Grace through Faith in Christ Jesus. (Romans 10). Next, by taking notice of what we think, what we say, and how we react or respond to those things around us. Taking self-inventory of what we think, what we say, and what we do produces self-control which is a Fruit of the Spirit.

There are nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering (Patience), Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness, Temperance (self-control). To obtain “fruit” of any kind it takes purposeful work. For a Christian to fully develop the Fruits of the Spirit takes purposeful work as well. Purposeful thinking. Purposeful speaking. Purposeful actions.

As Christians, we cannot simply live by emotions and emotional thinking to produce healthy, self-controlled lives. Many people live by the “if it feels good do it” philosophy which is a very dangerous and problematic way of life. Living purposefully produces self-control and living with self-control produces purposefully living. The two go hand-in-hand.

So, today I encourage you to begin living a “purposed life” by taking inventory of those things we think, the things we say, and the responses we show or demonstrate. Remember, if our ways do not line up with or reflect one of the Fruits of the Spirit we are giving into a deceptive hearts…And, we ALL must guard our lives and tongues against deception of any source.

May our lives be “purposed” and filled with the precious Fruit of the Spirit… Amen.

A Day in February …

A Day in February

February launches a wonderful time and opportunity of reflection as well as a time of anticipation.  Long, cold winter days give way to hours of reading and meditating on those things that bring warm joy into our hearts and lives; rightfully being since February is also known as “heart” month.  So, as you read my blog today perhaps you’d like to have a good cup of coffee in hand with your own personal devotional book to reference as the Spirit leads you.

Let me ask you this question, “How is your heart doing today?  Is it a healthy, happy heart both physically and emotionally?”  Sometimes, our heart can hurt us from a physical perspective. We hear that our heart is beating too fast or perhaps too slow. In either regard there is reason for concern. Sometimes, we may even hear that our heart is struggling to do its job effectively.  Doctors may introduce us to new or different medicines and exercise as a way to help our physically hurting heart to be stronger.  Then, there is the emotional side of our heart…Let me ask you this question. ”Is your heart breaking into right now from circumstances and situations beyond your control?”  Oh, my friend, the precious heart of man…

At my age (age 59), I hear a lot about the heart of matters both physically and emotionally.  Women tend to hurt more than men from an emotional perspective.  Men don’t always understand the “heart of a woman.”  Yet, a woman may not always understand the “heart of a man.”  Men need to feel strong, vibrate, alert, in-charge, respected, and active both physically and mentally.  Even though a woman may need these things as well, she is never more of a vibrate, healthy woman than when she is giving and receiving love from those she loves; no matter her physical shape or condition.  It’s all about love in a woman’s eyes.

There’s nothing stronger on the planet than God’s love and a mother’s heart.  The two make quite a combination of strength and courage.  The two together can conquer most anything thrown towards it…But, when a woman’s heart is broken emotionally so is her spirit.  It’s as if she exists without being seen or heard…It’s like she simply disappears into a background of despair, apathy, and desolation.

Have you ever gone into a nursing home to see a woman sitting alone in her wheelchair rocking a baby doll back and forth?  Her arms long to hold life because she is the giver of life.  People need people and without people there is no reason to exist. And, no one knows this truth more than a mother.

But, where do we turn and what do we do when the world we once knew no longer exists?  Where do we go in times of trials when those we love have all gone on their own path of life forgetting and even forsaking the love we once nurtured, cherished, gave and received?

It’s difficult to hear a loved one tell you that you are not enjoyable to be around because your “joy” is gone when they are your “joy.”  At this point, life seems to become a catch-22; or better yet, like a dog chasing its own tail…nothing works, nothing matters, nothing changes as the circle of dilemma goes round and round…round and round…heading nowhere.

But, by Faith, we must remember that just like winter gives way to spring…and spring gives way to winter…life does change…Live will change; for in a blink of an eye it can actually cease to exist.  So, we must be grateful for the moment; no matter the status of the moment; good or bad.

Yes; these are thoughts that one might ponder on a cold, dreary February day.  But, then somewhere in the crevices of the spirit the thoughts of springtime and a new life emerging etch their way into the mind… and a smile comes on our face as we look forward to warmer days,  warmer nights, lots of sunshine and even planting new flowers just to watch them grow…Springtime…when life returns…And, all is at peace again.

The world is a good place and whatever it is that may have you down and dreary on this February day will soon dissipate and you will once again feel a bounce back in your step and a “joy” in your heart.

Sometimes, we have to get off the beaten path to find our way.  That is one reason I feel that God lead me to create my blog and to title my first book, Break Away.  We must “Break Away” to find God in all things…And, that “breaking away” may include breaking away from old habits, old paths, old ways of thinking…It’s OK to be “all over the radar screen,” as they say, for a short time until you get your sense of direction back.  Long, cold, and even lonely February nights can provide “off the radar” opportunities.  Sometimes, it’s alright to not fly safely under the radar but right into the face of the radar and shouting, “I’m alive. I’m alive. I’m alive.  Can you see me?” We all need to be seen at times as a way of feeling valued, appreciated, and loved.

When our youngest daughter was a little girl she would stand still and place one (just one!) finger up to her eye and say, “Can you see me?”  I thought that was the cutest thing ever that she could imagine that one tiny finger could hide her entire little body.  But, you know some people feel the same way about their life and existence…They feel as if something or someone has blinded and blocked the view of their existence.  No one sees them.  It can even be something very small but suddenly the small obstacle has completely erased a feeling of self-worth and value.  They need someone to say, as I would say to my daughter, “Yes, I can see you. And, I love you.”

What we all need to be reminded is that just as my little daughter could still be seen while holding up her one little finger….our lives can still be seen when clouded with doubt, confusion, trials, and all kinds of intrusive, negative, and destructive feelings.  We can still be seen by those who love us.

We must be reminded that LOVE, even though it may be temporarily unseen, much like a seeding underground still exists waiting until it blossoms into full, splendor of sight…And that no matter what comes into our path to rob us of joy, LOVE  can never truly and actually die…For God is LOVE and as long as GOD is alive…There is LOVE.

May you feel God’s warm Love flowing through your spirit each and every day; no matter the season.

It’s Not My America Anymore…

It’s Not My America Anymore…

Do you recognize it?  America?  I don’t.  Its social and political features have changed so much so that I can no longer envision the nation that I once lived.  It has changed from North to South and from East to West.  My backyard remains the same. The drive to the local Wal-Mart is the same, but the nation itself has changed.  Its fundamental infrastructure no longer exists.

Nearly eight years ago, the people of our nation elected as its president a man who is not afraid to point his finger in the face of God and say, “I will do it my way.”  And, he has done just that. He promised “change,” and change is exactly what we got…But, not a good change.  Evil is now celebrated as being good, right, and courageous while morality, good, and decency are mocked and ridiculed. We are now living in a nation who “does what is right in their own eyes.”  (Judges 17:6).

But, let me assure you.  None of the events and happenings around the world is a surprise to God.  Everything is moving in the right direction according to God’s timetable. And, the current world leaders that HE has placed into their positions are carrying out exactly what God ordained them to do from the foundation of the world.  I may not agree nor like my current president’s governing abilities, but he is serving out God’s purpose and plan for our nation during this present day and time; whether or not he is aware of it.  But, oh, my friend, one day our nation’s president along with all the other world leaders (past, present, and future) will know who truly leads the events of this planet as every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess Jesus as Lord.

I have to admit that even though I am a Christian I was not “looking” each and every day for the second coming of our LORD, or as some refer to it as the Rapture of the Church, as I should have been.  I have faithfully served our LORD for the past forty years alongside of my husband who is an ordained minister. We raised our three daughters in church and we built our lives upon God’s Biblical principles.  But, I must admit that I wasn’t living with a daily focus on the expectancy of our LORD’S return.  I have always loved studying Bible prophecy. I have watched the “signs” for over forty years now, but I wasn’t praying daily, “Even so, Lord Jesus, Come Quickly.”  But that has quickly changed!

Like so many other Christians, I know that the Day of the Lord can appear at anytime in a twinkling of an eye. I am thankful to know that my name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.  But, I must confess that I possess way too much of this old world in my pocket and in my heart to sincerely pray, “Lord, Come Quickly.”  Like most families, I want to see my children and grandchildren grow up, go off to college, eventually marry, and have children of their own. I look forward to becoming a Great-grandmother one day because I already know how wonderful it is being a grandmother…So, the thoughts of another beautiful generation of babies birthed into our family and into this world filled my thoughts and heart with Joy.

But, all of that is quickly fading. I am now very concerned about the world and nation that we call home. We are living in a sickened society where our nation’s top leader calls to congratulate a once gold-medalist swimmer for changing his gender from male to female while he carelessly salutes our nation’s finest Marines with a cup of Star-Bucks in his hand.  How flippant and disrespectful can the leader of the free world be?

Also, being a retired public educator, I have always been an advocate of our nation’s public schools. But;  not any longer. Now, my grandchildren and future great-grandchildren will be exposed to gender-free environments that indoctrinate and encourage them to “choose” whichever gender they wish to remain as well as experimenting with multiple sexual partners to determine gender preference.  Sadly, my grandchildren won’t even feel safe in our nation’s military since they can no longer publicly exhibit their Christian faith, beliefs, and freedoms.

This is no longer the safe and peaceful nation and society that  I wish to see my children, grandchildren, or future grandchildren fight to live or survive.  I now envision my children living in a beautiful Millennium Kingdom with Christ Jesus, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, as their eternal Leader.  A place where God’s Laws are the Laws of the Land. I now desire to see my family and friends walk down the Street of Gold that runs alongside the River of Life.  Since my grandsons enjoy fishing I know they will enjoy this most majestic River! I now long to see the Twelve Fruits of Righteousness that will blossom to feed the Millennium nations by God’s own Hands….Ah, what visions these Truths hold within my heart!  Yes! There is a bright future for those of us who Trust in Christ Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior.

Maybe; just perhaps, this is what ALL of this madness is supposed to accomplish…All Christians everywhere letting go of this present day world and looking forward to our Lord’s soon coming and to our eternal home in Heaven clothed in all of its glorious splendor.  Let us wake up out of our sleep and Look Up for our Redemption draweth nigh.

Like never before in my lifetime I can sincerely pray with great expectancy, “Come, Lord Jesus. Come Quickly.”  Amen.

Remember, God Loves You!

April Showers Bring May Flowers

The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land. (Song of Solomon 2:12)

Weeks before the beautiful flowers appear on earth there is always a time of refreshing rain. As the old saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers.”

The same can be said in the life of a Christian. Like a flower, we, too, need good soil, rain, and plenty of sunshine to grow and bloom into the person the Lord wants us to be. Where does a Christian find good soil, rain, and sunshine?  Our good soil is God’s Holy Word the Bible. We must be rooted and grounded in the Word of God to grow, mature, and blossom in our Christian life.  Rain is often used in the Bible as a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Oh, how refreshing it is when the sweet Holy Spirit anoints us with His showers of blessings poured out upon our lives!  Then, we have the Lord himself divinely lighting our path. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father except by me.”(John 14:6)  Jesus is our sunshine, our Heavenly sunshine that sustains our Christian lives each and every day.

My friend as you go about enjoying the spring season that is upon us with all of its beautiful flowers, singing birds, warm days and relaxing warm evenings, I encourage you to examine your inner man’s soil (your soul) to make sure you are getting all the nutrients that your Christian life needs to grow ever more and more lovely. I encourage you to dig deep in the soil of God’s Word removing any weeds that may choke out the beautiful seeds that may blossom in your life. I encourage you to seek the Holy Spirit’s showers of blessings through fervent prayer. And, I encourage you to walk in the sunshine of God’s Love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

By doing these things that are listed above your life can become a beautiful rose garden that everyone enjoys seeing and being around.  And, you will be a blessing to God as well. The Bible teaches us to, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and ALL these things will be added unto you.”  You may ask, “What things?”  Oh, my friend you will experience the beautiful blessings of God’s ever-blooming bouquet of fresh flowers sent directly to you from His beautiful eternal garden each and every day…We call these God’s Faithful Promises…As the old songs says, “There is Land of Beautiful Flowers.”  And, one day those of us who have been planted in God’s Salvation Garden will live forever in the midst of that beautiful land that some call Heaven, but I call it home.

Enjoy the beautiful Spring season that is upon us, and remember, God loves you.

Only God Can Prevent Forest Fires…

Only God Can Prevent Forest Fires

Remember the public service message that started back in the 1940’s and still continues today, “Smokey the Bear says, Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires.” Well, in so many ways that’s true in both our world of nature and physical life. But, what about another type of “fire” that ignites from the emotions of the heart? I’m talking about the “fires-of- life” that can often start with or without our input, interference, assistance, or help. Just like forest fires, the emotional “fires of life,” and those of society, can bring about severe damage and destruction; sometimes even fatal. How can we, as Believers, prevent this type of fire from becoming severely destructive and out of control within our own hearts and lives?

The Truth is that “ONLY God Can Prevent Forest Fires” that originate and ignite from the heart of mankind. Most often the “fires of life” begin with a small spark the same way as natural forest fires do. It can be a “spark” from a negative word, a negative look, or a negative attitude. It can be a “spark” from a wrongful or misplaced desire. It can be a “spark” from anger, resentment, or bitterness. It can be from a spark of jealousy or misunderstanding. Nevertheless, before you know it the spark has taken flight and becomes a roaring out-of-control burning issue that renders everything within its path destroyed. Too often the best of families suffer from these types of fires. Businesses suffer from these types of fires. Neighbors and friends suffer from these types of fires. And, churches (local assemblies) even suffer greatly from these types of destructive fires.

Too often when these types of “fires-of-life” erupt, we immediately seek out the help and support of others that may not be qualified in such fire protection or damage control. ONLY God, our Creator, can put out the fires of erroneous passion, hate, malice, injustice, bitterness, unforgiving spirits, and indifference. ONLY God possesses the tools, experience, knowledge, and wisdom necessary to quench such tumultuous fires.

The overlying problem lies within the heart of man. Sadly, man would rather seek the help and assistance of others to put out life’s fires than to seek out the eternal and experienced Owner of the Forest! Calling upon God is not like calling upon another human being or dialing 911. In order to call upon God to put out the fires of life, one must first humble himself or herself in such a way as to ask God’s forgiveness for any and all involvement they may have had in the situation or matter; whether they believe they may be at fault or not. Humbleness is the first requirement and requisite to call upon God to quench the fires of life. Second, man must be willing to suffer the losses that the fires of life may have caused; whether temporary or long-term. Man (or woman) learns from their mistakes…the bigger the mistake the harder the lesson. We must be willing to “submit” ourselves to God’s school-of-life and be willing to “graduate” ONLY AFTER we have met God’s minimal requirements that include Love of God and Love for one another. Third, we must pray for all stakeholders involved in the matter or situation not as we would have them to react or respond, but as God would have them to respond. This requires our utmost patience, time, and waiting; and often the waiting period can be rather lengthy. Have you ever seen a destroyed forest reproduce and replenish itself over night? No; of course not. Once a beautiful forest has been destroyed by the winds of fire it can take a life-time to recover. But, if you will look closely after you have sought the help of God you can often see the signs of tiny sprigs of new growth lying just below the charred surface. Only God can bring forth “beauty from ashes.”

You may be facing or going through a particular “fire-of-life” right now that has you running for help or even for your life, protection, and shelter. You may be greatly grieving over your losses as you watch the flames of life consume and destroy the things that you love and hold dear to your heart. But, let’s examine the advice of our trained Fire Protectors and Firemen. As the fire safety technique teaches, “Stop, drop, and roll.” Stop running and panicking. Panic only adds wind to the situation and spreads the flames farther and farther. At this very moment just Stop! Next, take in a deep breath and “Drop” on your knees before God. Make God your Fire Chief in all matters of life. Seek out HIS help before you call upon anyone else to deliver you. Lastly, “Roll” on with your life each and every day leaving God in charge of rebuilding your life and everything that you have lost during the fire. Remember, ONLY God can grow a tree. Only God can bring forth new life and new growth. Learn to lean on Him as your forest replenish and rebuilds. Also, learn to lean on Him as your Forest Ranger who looks out for you and shows you how to avoid forest fires through His own Words, The B.I.B.L.E. (Amen!)

No matter what we do to prevent life’s personal forest fires they can occur and come our way with or without warning. We must be ready at all points in life to know the rules of “life’s forest fires.” Remember, before you call 911 to sound an alarm for others to come running, “Stop and Drop,” by humbly going to Jesus first in prayer. Sound out the alarms of Heaven through diligent, fervent prayer. Give Jesus all the facts and details that you know of. Then, trust in Him to bring the right equipment (God’s Word) to put out the “fires of life.” Lastly, “Roll” on with your life while being patient, positive, and productive as God restores, renews, and replenish your losses. With GOD, our Great Fire Chief and Forest Protector, in time your new forest may even be bigger, better, and more beautiful than the forest you lost; or you ever imagined. Remember, Only God Can Prevent Forest Fires…Only God Can Rebuild, Replenish, and Restore…Amen!

In 2015 “Study to Show Thyself Approved…”

Study to show thyself (your own self) approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (II Timothy 2:15 KJV).

If you have one New Year’s resolution that you stick with, I would encourage you to make it daily Bible reading and study.
Notice that the scripture says, “study to show thyself (your own self) approved unto God….” Without Bible study you will never understand nor comprehend how much God really and truly loves you and how much HE wants to be the guide and leader in your life.

There are an innumerable number of things in life all bidding for your time and attention. Nevertheless, only the Bible guides your heart, mind, and life to follow the things of God. Without regular, disciplined study of the Word of God you will never find God’s will for your life nor His Peace that passes all understanding.

There are no hidden secrets, tricks, societies, plans, magic, personal agendas, or “wishes” that can lead you to God. God chose HIS Word to reveal himself…And, God’s Word became flesh through the person Jesus Christ and dwelled among us. (John 1:14). We can only find out about God and His Son Jesus Christ (God manifested in the flesh) through intensive reading and study of His Word, the Holy Bible.

Many a non-believer and skeptic have come away “believing” after reading and studying the Bible. It is still the number one best-selling book of all time and will continue being so until Christ returns.

Ask yourself this question. Why fill your mind and life with manmade philosophies that are unproven rather than filling your mind and life with God’s Word, the Bible? Only the Word of God contains The Truth, The Way, and The Life which pleases God and settles a man’s or woman’s own heart.

My friend, I encourage and beg you to “Break Away” to find God in all things by reading and studying God’s Word for yourself. Make reading and studying God’s Word the number one priority in your life. Read and study for yourself to find out who God really is and discover your purpose for life. Amen.

Remember, God Loves You.
