When the Retaliation is Greater Than the Offense

When the Retaliation is Greater Than the Offense

In this piece, I am not talking about wars of nations or the protection of individual lives from perils of injury or death; I am talking about conflicts that can arise between individuals and/or groups of individuals.

Sadly, I believe that our nation, many of our families, and even some of our churches are suffering from a condition where those who choose to sit in judgment justify and often support the “greater” acts of negative reciprocation more than the original crime of offense(s).

In other words, someone may truly offend another person, but when the offended person or group of persons retaliate at such a level of degree that their retaliation far outweighs the original offense, which party is then at greater fault?

We all know people who can be offended and able to recall the very date and hour of the offense, no matter how small or great, thirty years now the road. They will make comments such as, “Well, I don’t like that person because back in elementary school they stole my eraser and never gave it back or said they were sorry.” Now mind you the person making the statement is now seventy years old!! But, that is exactly how some people wish to live out their lives.

Other people who become offended may seek to bring a “crowd” of people to their rescue or defense causing a small matter to suddenly erupt into a larger one. We all need to monitor our own emotions when we become offended and upset at another human being. Truly, we may have been terribly wronged and injustice was served, but to gather a “crowd” in order to “draw a line-in-the-sand” can become quite harmful; especially to those who do not know both sides of the story. And, one sure element of maturity is to know from the get-go that there are always two sides to any story..And, both sides “perceived truth” to them is truth. This is why it takes “skilled” investigators often great lengths in time to truly find the bottom line of truth in any matter…And, it takes lots of dedicated “prayers” by mature Christians to seek out truth and God’s guidance in most matters regardless if it involves home, work, play, or church.

Today, many people want to accept the “perception of the truth” almost immediately without hearing out both sides. Conflicts, differences of opinions, and major differences between personal ethics and personal mannerisms are not easy to differentiate who’s right from who’s wrong when opposed. Both motives and hidden attitudes must be considered as well as who has the most to lose…But, just deciding that the person who has the most to lose is the one in the wrong is not always the case. Take the incident in the Bible where two women claimed the same baby.

One of two ladies tiny baby died during the night. So the lady whose baby had died got up quietly during the night and “swapped” her dead baby for the other lady’s living baby. The next morning the mother of the living baby immediately recognized that the dead baby lying next to her was not her baby. She looked around and saw her living baby in the arms of the other mother. Naturally, a fight erupted between the two mothers. The two mothers were brought before King Solomon to rule his judgment as to whom the living baby belonged. In his very blessed heart of wisdom Solomon ordered the living baby to be cut into half. Immediately, the real mother screamed out not to cut the baby into half but rather give the whole baby to the other mother…That my friend is a “mother’s love.” King Solomon immediately ordered the baby to be returned to the rightful mother. Sometimes, to avoid further harm and hurt in a matter the person who loves and cares the most will sacrifice their own heart for the sake of the bigger picture! So, the one who has the most to lose may very well back off and become the greater victim. Only God knows the real heart of man. (See I King 3:16-28 for Solomon’s story of the two mothers.)

In today’s modern society patience is not highly valued nor appreciated. A person who wishes to “wait” on a matter and allow God to bring all things to light is looked upon as being weak and not “pro-active” as the secular worlds refers. But, in GOD’s spiritual world patience is still a virtue, Fruit of the Spirit, and very much a valued trait; especially among leaders.

Some time ago, I heard of a group of people who decided to take matters into their own hands regarding an ongoing issue. At the most inappropriate time and place, they brought undue and negative attention to an already complex matter. Let me go on record as saying “nothing” good comes from abruptness of behavior in the wrong place at the wrong time; especially when there is an audience involved. A good rule of thumb to follow is that Satan always loves an unsuspecting audience who does not have all the details or facts. Satan thrives on creating confusion, perception, and division. Oh, my friend, it is so sad to see people bound to their emotional ties so much so that they willfully follow the works of darkness by believing that their harmful outward actions will bring things to light. Think about it…how can confusion bring anything to the True LIGHT?! Jesus does not work in such chaos. His voice brings stillness of heart. A good thing to remember and rule to follow.

It appears to me that our nation, government, organizations, families, and many of our churches are suffering from a lack of godly “wisdom.” We stand in need of modern-day Solomon’s to decipher right from wrong. We need men and women filled with the Holy Spirit to mediate and moderate for the overall good of everyone, all stakeholders; not just a select few or group.

When involved in matters of conflict, we need to be careful and mindful to channel our emotions and perceptions for the greater Truth and Honesty. It’s easy to get caught up in matters and situations that touch our lives and hearts. It takes great courage, patience, understanding, faith, hope, and LOVE to endure some of the challenges placed before us…But, like Solomon we can do it; when we seek the wisdom of God and know the tactics of Satan! As the Bible teaches, “No house can stand or survive when it is divided against itself…” (Matthew 12: 22-28). Jesus comes to heal and to bind. Satan comes to destroy and divide. We must learn and be familiar with God’s ways from those of Satan’s.

Today, let me just say that if you are a part of a movement where the reciprocation or retaliation of a matter is bringing forth greater harm than the offense (or, crime), take heed and warning you are NOT moving in the right direction. Repent. Ask for God’s forgiveness. Seek restitution with those whom you have personally offended and ask God for HIS wisdom to bring ALL things to the real LIGHT in the same matter as JESUS himself would do. No one has ever been more offended and personally attacked than Jesus Christ himself. Yet; from the Cross He cried, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Jesus always seeks to restore, revive, and return peace and positive outcome from negative.

Working through issues, differences of opinions, and offenses is not ever easy. There will always be a degree of pain involved; sometimes both mentally and emotionally for all parties involved…But, there is always a right way and a wrong way to go about resolving matters of conflict and personal ideologies.

In closing, I urge you to not let your retaliation or reactions become greater than the crime or offense(s) bestowed upon you or someone you love. As the Bible teaches, “Take heed lest ye fall.” (I Corinthians 10:12)…In time, and through much prayer, allow the Spirit of God to bring ALL things to HIS LIGHT. Only then will both the offenses and reactions be resolved and justified in the eyes of God. To God be the Glory. Amen.

Almighty; High and Lifted Up…

Almighty; High and Lifted Up…

My friend, do you know that you know who God really is? And, what God represents and what God can do with just the utterance of his breath?

Do we as human beings really grasp the full concept of GOD? Do we really understand our inferior nature to HIS superior intelligence and abilities? Oh, how GOD puts up with our inferior ways and lack of abilities each and every day…But, why does HE do this? Simply because HE is GOD and HE Reigns Supreme over all of the Earth and the vast universes surrounding us. HE is ABBA Father, our Creator, and HE knows our weaknesses, our inabilities, and our fallen nature…Oh, but how HE loves me; Oh, how HE loves you and me. So much so that HE was willing to send HIS only begotten Son to die in our place. (John 3:16)

Friend, today you may be tempted to doubt God or doubt what God is allowing to come into your life. You may be facing a terrible storm, a terrible sickness, a terrible divorce, a terrible death of a loved one…Your world may be falling apart right before your eyes and you feel as if you will never overcome and recover…But, that’s not the case my friend. Jesus is LORD…He is LORD right now over every circumstance in your life; good or bad…For no other god can do what our GOD can do…HE can take the hidden things of this life and bring them to light. He can take the fallen and restore them to a place of honor. He can take the pride of an individual and break it into pieces as if it was dashed against the rocks. HE alone can pull the storm out of the person or the person out of the storm…It is in HIS power to do so…Whatsoever God commands that HE can and will do.

The most amazing thing about GOD is how HE shows such great patience and compassion toward HIS creation. No longer will HE annihilate the whole human race as He did in the Great Flood, but instead HE provided a way of escape through HIS own shed blood at Calvary’s Cross. Oh, how HE loves you and me…Oh, how HE loves you and me…He gave his life what more can HE give…Oh, how HE loves you…Oh, how HE loves me…Oh, how HE loves you and me.

Trust HIM today…give HIM your heart and your heartache…Only GOD can grow a tree…Only GOD can mold a man…Only GOD can heal the brokenhearted and restore unto him strength, honor, and courage…HE is ALMIGHTY; HIGH AND LIFTED UP…HE IS GOD!

Deliver Me From My Enemies

“Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God; defend me from them that rise up against me.” (Psalm 59).

Possibly, in my life time or since the late 1930’s and early 1940’s, are we seeing such a massive uprising of physical attacks and assaults on a people because of their ethnicity and faith.

It’s getting more and more difficult to watch the daily news without ever-growing concerns for our Christian brothers and sisters living in the Middle East as well as the daily bombardments on Israel. One would have to be completely living with their head buried in the sand to not see what is happening. God’s enemies are boldly moving throughout our globe as they see earth’s final days quickly approaching.

In the New Testament book of Matthew, chapter twenty-four, Jesus himself reveals the “signs” and “events” that will be occurring at his second coming. Could the headlines of today’s news say it any plainer? Yes; many of these events and happenings have been taking place on our planet at one time or another ever since Jesus ascended back into Heaven over 2,000 years ago. But, Jesus also taught that the world’s end-of-time troubles would come on much like birth pangs intensifying stronger and stronger as the day approaches.

I remember when our oldest daughter went into labor with our first grandchild. We took her to the hospital three times in one day as the pains continued. But, on that fourth and final trip the pains had become closer and closer and more unbearable. When we walked through the front entrance of the birthing center that time the nurse took one look and said, “She’s got the look.” What look you might ask? The look of intense pain and suffering! She was suffering and she wasn’t even able to get a good breath from one pain to the other. That seems to be what is happening all around us on planet Earth. We cannot get through one piece of bad news before another one hits right on top of it.

The pains, sorrows, and trials of this life are getting closer and closer and seemingly harder and harder to manage. It appears to me that Jesus’ return is on the horizon. I beg you my friend to make your election sure; your Salvation in Jesus Christ. That you know that you know without a shadow of a doubt that you are a child of God’s, born-again, filled with the Holy Spirit, and ready for your departure ALL in the name of Jesus Christ.

The only sure way to be “delivered” from the enemies of this life and the dreadful Great Tribulation that is upon us is through the shed blood of Jesus at Calvary. Jesus is LORD and He is our only “Deliverer.” Great is HIS name. Amen.

Our Brother’s Distress…Our Distress

Our Brother’s Distress…Our Distress

Then they said to one another, “Truly we are guilty concerning our brother, because we saw the distress of his soul when he pleaded with us, yet we would not listen; therefore this distress has come upon us.” – Genesis 42: 21

The above scripture refers to the story of Joseph being placed inside the pit by his jealous older brothers and later sold into captivity. As a result, Joseph would spend the next thirty years in prison before becoming second in command under Pharaoh of Egypt.

It was only after Joseph had been retrieved from his prison life by the Pharaoh and made overseer of Egypt’s land that his brothers traveled to Egypt in search of food due to the intense famine that covered Israel’s land. Three decades after their shameful scheme, they surely thought Joseph was long dead. They never suspected for one minute that his life had been divinely protected and divinely orchestrated by Elohim God. But, they were about to find out in a most startling way. As the story goes, God had protected Joseph’s life while in captivity in order to save and protect the lives of his brothers and his father, Jacob.

As the above scripture explains, the brothers admitted among themselves that they had “saw the distress of his (Joseph’s) soul when he pleaded with us, yet we would not listen; therefore this distress has come upon us.” Using this particular confession, I want to pose a question to those of us living in America today…”Are we ignoring the pleas of our brothers and sisters in Christ who are in distress in the Middle East because of their Faith in Christ Jesus?”

Tonight, I watched a FOX newscast report on the ongoing deaths and tortures happening to Christians all around the world where radical Islam terrorist groups are taking over. I sadly listened to a young lady “beg” for the help of our nation to come to the aid of Christians being killed and persecuted in Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries. At the end of her interview she held up a sign that read, “Help to Stop the Christian Holocaust.” To say the least, the report greatly disturbed me.

See, I am not only a Christian living in America, but I am also a retired Language Arts and Social Studies teacher who taught the story of Anne Frank to my middle grades students for several years. Tonight, as I was surrounded by the comforts and safety of my home I was witnessing on TV a young dark-haired girl begging for her life to be protected and spared from “distress,” persecution, and death at the hands of radical Islamists. This easily could have been a telecast from the early 1940’s of a young Anne Frank begging for the same protection and aid.

My USA friends, what are we going to do? Are we going to one day lower our heads in shame and say, “We saw the distress of their souls when they pleaded with us, yet we would not listen?” Are we going to listen to their pleas and send help? Or, will we not listen until the same “distress” and persecutions are knocking at our front doors? God forbid.

I feel as if I want to rush outside and sound the alarms saying, “Wake up!” “Wake up!” “The enemy is upon us and we must wake up!” How close is this enemy to our own door steps? Five days? Five months? Five years? Yes; it is what it is…While we are living in the USA seemingly with our “heads in the sand” our brothers and sisters in Christ living within the Middle East are filled with fears and begging for their lives.

I was shocked to see dozens and dozens of “Christians” lined up, face down, in the streets with their hands tied behind their backs awaiting torture for not denying their faith in Christ Jesus. This was not a scene from seventy years ago, but a scene from yesterday’s current news headlines. How does one go to sleep after seeing something like this? For me; I didn’t. That’s why I am up and writing this blog after midnight.

My friend, I feel we must seriously, seriously seek our GOD in prayer on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Christ who are being tortured and killed right now for their Faith. We also must pray for the continual safety of Israel against her enemies. We in America have lived somewhat “charmed” lives compared to the majority of the world. I’m not saying that we are without challenges, problems, burdens, trials, sicknesses, concerns, and setbacks. But, for the majority of Americans we live in some type of “blessed” environment each and every day with resources, liberties, and freedoms that many in this world never experience.

Right now, my heart is heavy for those who are suffering for their Faith in Jesus Christ. Today, it is happening across a wide ocean and vast lands away from us…But, tomorrow, it could be occurring upon and within our own shore lines and streets.

The forces of darkness are upon us and without GREAT Faith, GREAT Strength, GREAT Wisdom, and GREAT Courage; we too may come to know what Great Distress is all about. God, have mercy upon me and my family; and our land of America.

My prayer is that we, as Christians, will be protected each and every day and that our lives will be divinely orchestrated much the same way as Joseph’s. Though we are sold into suffering captivity, that our GOD will provide a way of escape that we may bring Honor, Hope, Praise, and Glory unto the Name of our LORD, Jesus. In HIS Name I pray, Amen.
