A New Path

A New Path

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105 KJV)

This morning I told myself that I have been walking on this “old path” for way, way too long…This old path is burning the souls of my bare feet with hot burning blisters, sores, and scars…They are swollen, painful, bruised, and full of cuts and scratches from all the thorns, briars, and rugged rocky terrain. The old path of worry, fears, concerns, anxieties, impatience, cares, and woes of this life…My feet desire A New Path…A joyful path…A path that is illuminated by the Word of God and the Light of Christ. Not that I haven’t been a “Believer” in Christ Jesus and a practicing Christian for several decades but that I have allowed myself to get entangled in some on-going cares and woes of this life that have stolen my JOY and weakened my faith…I don’t want that anymore…So, this morning I prayed unto Jesus asking Him to put my feet on a New Path…His Path…The one that promises His Grace, His Mercy, and His Peace that passes all understanding.

As I meditated upon God’s Word, I saw myself putting on His Garments…His mighty belt of Truth to surround me with His Strength. His Breastplate of Righteousness to know and discern right thoughts and actions from those that are wrong. His Shield of Faith to stop ALL the fiery darts of Satan from bombarding my way. His Helmet of Salvation to guard my thoughts with His thoughts. His Sword of the Spirit which is God’s Words to plant in my heart and spring forth from my mouth…And, His Shoes of Peace to Lighten my way and soothe my journey. After that, I prayed for the Blood of Christ to be applied all over my weary feet to heal them; for with His stripes we are healed. Then, I asked that the old path be destroyed, broken up, and done away with so that no one before me or after me will be able to walk down that path again. I don’t want any of my adult children or grandchildren to ever discover this “old path” and try to walk down it…I want them to see “Meemaw” walking on God’s Glorious Path filled with God’s Grace, Mercy, and Peace.

As I prayed, I felt as if God was standing right beside me hearing, listening, and answering my prayers. He has seen the battle. He has seen the scars. He has seen the heart of the whole matter and knows its time for me to leave the “old path” and walk on his newly laid out path filled with HIS Faith, Assurance, Hope, Trust, and Peace…As I prayed, I could see the “old path” in my mind breaking apart as if it no longer existed and the “New Path” illuminating before me. I could feel as if my feet were being soothed, cooled, healed, and touched by the Master’s Hand the same way as he touched and washed his Disciples feet the night he gave His life on Calvary. Oh yes, I am His child and He is My Lord…I will Trust in Him at all times. Let His Words be my Path…

Like me, you, too, may have been facing haunting concerns, fears, worries, and cares that were practically paralyzing your ever thought and step. But, thanks be unto God we can call on Jesus anytime to remove us from the “old path” of worry and cares and place our blood-bought redeemed feet on a brighter, new path filled with God’s blessed Assurance, Goodness, Grace, Mercy, and Peace…May you be clothed today in God’s Armor of Salvation as you journey down A New Path…

It Matters to God…

It Matters to God…

For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. (II Chronicles 16:9)

How you treat others is of utmost importance to God…God sees the heart…As a matter of fact, you can perfectly entertain acquaintances, friends, peers, or even strangers, but if you hold malice, unforgiveness, bitterness, and resentment in your heart against people…your heart is simply not right with God.

As we mature in Christ, we learn that God is not impressed when one of our goals is to impress certain groups of people. Being a retired Pastor’s wife and a retired school teacher, I know a little something about the “need” to impress certain groups of people. You almost feel you have to…After all, these people “expect” a certain type of behavior from you no matter the situation or circumstance because of the “role” and “title” you carry. And, being in the position and role that you are, you oblige. But, after a while that type of “living” will bring about lots and lots of stress…Why? Because God is not impressed with how we try to impress the crowds…He looks to see the way we behave when NO ONE is looking…He looks to see how we treat our relatives, family, spouse, and children…God is the Master of “behind closed doors.” And, until a person gets their act together behind closed doors and in private…all their outward efforts will burn away one future day like hay and stumble…

I desperately tried to be a “good” Pastor’s wife even when facing lots of opposition. But, I wonder if God would have been more satisfied if I had “relaxed” more and simply enjoyed my family, parents, children, and spouse more? I’m sure the stress and tension of trying to “please” people who would not remember my name one day was very ineffective…Moderation is the Key! And, learning to love those who love you for who you are is an important “key” as well…Plainly put, missionaries will come and go…Churches will come and go…Congregations will come and go…But, the people in your life who are the most important will be there for you and with you as long as God allows breath in their lungs…No impressing required!

We all make mistakes; especially when we are young and have so many things on our plate to deal with and to attend…But, take it from someone who knows…Make time and take time for your self, your family, and your closest friends who love you NOT for your title, role, or position in life, but for who you are! In doing so, you will find peace in your heart and discover that God is well-pleased…

Prayers That Availeth Much!

Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and he shall bring it to pass.” Psalm 37:5

On May 2nd, 2013, National Day of Prayer, I joined a group of citizens and several pastors from surrounding churches to pray for our great nation. As we stood up to sing our National Anthem something pretty amazing happened. The winds started picking up speed and for a brief moment I wondered if the tent that we were gathered under would be able to withstand the surging gusts. However, at the same time, the stately USA red, white, and blue Flag decided to take center stage and take our minds off the possible collapse of the tent to notice its majestic waving beauty. When we first started to sing the flag hang limp around the pole, but suddenly with each word proceeding forth from our lips the flag came alive as it mounted up stronger and stronger until it stood perpendicular to the ground. It seemed as if it had taken on a life of its own and was showing those of us singing how truly proud it was to be an American Flag. Then, as we sang the final words to the stanza, “O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave,” it seemingly turned to face the crowd and started waving up and down! At first, I thought I was the only one who had noticed this powerful reminder of God’s grace shed upon our country, but when the host Pastor stood to speak he too was taken in awe of the flag’s dramatic performance. It was as if God, the wind, and the flag were making their presence known unto us. After that, what a wonderful time of Prayer we had!

But, as the program continued, I was suddenly reminded of a particular prayer request that I have failed to be faithful. Oh, yes, I have called this need before the Lord on many occasions, but I question both my motives and sincerity. I became acutely aware that if I truly want to see my nation turn around for God then I must sincerely and faithfully start praying for our nation’s current leaders and President. So, I began to pray for genuine salvation to come to our President, his wife, and their daughters. Instead of praying as I have been praying for the past five years, “Lord, do something!” I realized that our President needs to first know God through a personal relationship with Christ Jesus if he is to ever understand the “hearts” and “minds” of the godly citizens who live within our country, as well as how to successfully govern our land. I also realized that for him to call our nation a “Christian” nation that he, himself, will need to fully understand what it means to be a Christian! So, I have committed myself to praying daily for our President’s Salvation through a personal, born-again experience with the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible tells of a man who once disregarded Christians and even hunted them down for bounty. But, on the Road to Damascus the Lord shone a Great Light all around him and called him by name. That same man later went on to write more books than any other disciple in the New Testament, and we know him today as the great Apostle Paul. What a major witness would our President become should he, too, come to the Light of Christ!

So, this week, I invite you to join me (if you are not already doing so) in praying for Salvation to come to the White House first through the President, then his wife and daughters, and then to those who surround and advise him. May each one of our nation’s leaders see the Eternal Greatness and Light of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Remember, God Loves You! And, yes, we are a Christian Nation!
