“In whom also after that ye believed, ye were SEALED with that holy Spirit of promise…” (Ephesians 1:13)
When reading this passage of Scripture found in the New Testament book of Ephesians, it might be easy to overlook the deeper meaning of the very important word, “Sealed.”
A quick reference of synonyms will show that seal means: close, tighten, or shut. But, researching further in the dictionary we can find deeper meanings of the word, “sealed” that can also be applied to our Spiritual lives as well.
To “seal” something means to make it air-tight and water-tight; filling every gap of space. Mmmm…Question….Could this mean that when the holy Spirit takes up residency within “us,” as believers, that He is “sealed” within us and cannot “leak” out? Does this mean that water damage (also known as storms of life) cannot enter into the “sealed” part of our lives where the holy Spirit dwells? Could this mean that the holy Spirit takes up all the space within our soul and there is no gaps whatsoever? Yes; Yes; that’s exactly what I believe it means when the Scripture says, “sealed with that holy Spirit of promise!”
Another meaning of the word, “sealed,” is to stamp or mark something as being “authenic“ or “certified.” With so many “copycats” of original items floating around within our society, it’s nice when something is “sealed” as being the real thing; “authentic.” Mmmm…Question…Could this mean that the holy Spirit “seals” us, as believers, as being the real thing in Christ Jesus; authentic and certified born-again believers in the Blood of Jesus Christ?! Yes, I believe it does!
So, the word, “sealed” carries a BIG punch with it…Today, born-again Christians in the Blood of Jesus Christ are “sealed.” But, there’s one more definition that can be applied to our lives, as well. “Sealed” can also mean that something has been “marked” to ONLY be opened by a specific person or designated owner! Now, that gets my blood pumping! I am SEALED by my designated owner, Jesus, and He is the only one who can break that seal when I reach my final destination, Heaven! Yippee; I AM SEALED!!!
Oh, my friend, what a promise we have in Jesus to be “SEALED” until the day of redemption…(Ephesians 4:30)…Our seal is everlasting, eternal, and assured; it cannot leak out and nothing can destroy it within! And, our seal carries the stamp of autheniticy of being marked, “To be opened only by Jesus Christ!” Wow! What a blessing the promised word, “seal” actually means to a Christian!
This morning, I pray that you, too, are “Sealed with that holy Spirit of promise…” If you are like me, we can rest in the assurance that no matter what may come our way, we cannot escape the Love of God whereby we are “sealed!” Amen…
Remember, God Loves You!
