The Joy Found at Calvary

The Joy Found at Calvary

“Save Yourself and come down from the Cross if you are the Son of God” (Matthew 27:40 NIV)

It was not God’s plan for His Son, Jesus Christ, to come down from the Cross as the crowd yelled out that day at Golgotha….It was God’s plan, from the foundation of the Earth, that His Son, Jesus Christ, go to the Cross, give up his own life there, suffer and die for our sins, and in three days be resurrected from the grave to have eternal victory over sin and death for all those who believe…(John 3:16).

Oh, my friend…I believe in the Cross at Calvary…And, I believe that it is the Cross that is the Power of God to save…”For the preaching of the Cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the Power of God.” (I Cor. 1:18 KJV).

I ask myself this question…”If our churches continue to report declines in Salvation (those Accepting, Believing, and Confessing in Christ Jesus as their personal Savior) could it be that we have placed emphasis on other things more than the Cross??  Personally, I think so…It was through the Sufferings of Jesus Christ that mankind was delivered from sufferings.  I fear that today’s “Feel Good” religion has replaced the true “SUFFERINGS” of our LORD…Yet; the Preaching of the Cross is God’s Power….His Power to Save!

Tonight, I will be teaching a study that I have written, “The Joy Found at the Cross of Calvary.”  Today, May 3rd,  is our National Day of Prayer… Right now, my husband is attending a morning prayer breakfast with hundreds of other Pastors, Preachers, and Saints of God…As many of you, today I will be praying for our nation and its leaders…But, I am also going to be praying for the Power of the Cross to return upon our individual lives and the lives of our churches…Want you join me in this Biblical request?

Church leaders all over our land are saying that we are losing our young people who are raised up in the House of God as soon as they graduate high school and college.  Once they enter into the “adult” world they are turning their backs on their “church” raisings and on God…I fear that our young people have been tantalized and provided with so many activities and “methods” of Salvation that we are losing the point of the message…”The Cross!”  I believe that our entire society needs a reminder and a refreshing of the Cross burned into our hearts, souls, and mind….God’s sufferings….The place where God showed His Power of Love, choosing to die in my place for my sins!  I feel that we don’t need more sermons on pleasant smiles…Or more fun-day activities….We don’t even need more traditional, Southern-Gospel, Praise and Worship, or Contemporary Christian music to gain the attention of our congregations…We need the Cross…The Power of God…

Do we truly realize that when our nation’s president states that we are no longer a “Christian” nation that he is, in fact, denying the Power of the Cross???  Jesus, God manifested in the flesh (John 1:14), is the ONLY way of Salvation…True Salvation is not a religion….Salvation is a relationship with God….But, that “relationship” can ONLY be realized and accepted through the Cross at Calvary….Believing in and Accepting God’s Sufferings to forgive our sins…Somehow, I believe we are missing the message and the point….We are missing the POWER of God found ONLY at the Cross…

Truthfully, in most of today’s modern-day churches, you won’t even find the symbol of the Cross…It is too old-fashioned and not “uplifting” enough for today’s society…To the modern-day church, the Cross is depressing and reminds us of things we’d rather not remember!  We want to be “happy,” “happy,” happy” little church membes….Well, We had better remember the Cross!  And, we had better remember that without the shedding of blood there is NO remission of Sin….And, that “shedding of blood” was shed by Jesus Christ on the Cross at Calvary and there is NO other way to God!  My husband once preached nearly one year on a series of messages he wrote called, “Lining Your Life Up with the Cross.”  What a powerful set of sermons they were!  My husband has always preached the Cross..and I am very humbled and proud of him for that fact…

As we pray today…let’s be reminded of The Joy Found in the Cross at Calvary…The Power of God…The Power unto Salvation….Today, I pray that our nation and its leaders will humble themselves and return to the Cross…For in doing so, we, as a nation, will return to the right source…The Power of God…Amen…

Remember, God Loves You!
