“When Failure Is NOT an Option!”

“When Failure Is NOT an Option!”

26But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.  (Matthew 19:26)

In the spring of 1970, NASA flight director, Gene Kranz, was faced with an impossible, micro-second-by-micro-second life-threatening situation.  His job…to get the crew of Apollo 13 back home safely.  As his team sounded out rounds and rounds of devastating problems and disastrous probabilities, he suddenly stopped, stepped back, and militantly announced, “Failure is not an option!”   And, on that most historic day and time in the life of NASA, the crew of Apollo 13, though affected by the tremendous hurdles and challenges they had endured, safely made it back to planet Earth…Failure was not an option on that particular day.

Though most of us are not astronauts hurling our way through space, there are times within our own lives,  “When Failure Is NOT an Option!”  But, unlike Gene Franz’ brilliant team of dedicated scientists, we, as Christians, trust in an “Unseen,” “All-knowing,” “Merciful” and “Caring” God through Jesus Christ, our Savior.

Even though both astounding and admirable credit is due to Director Kranz and his outstanding team for getting Apollo’s crew safely back home, I believe there was also an “UNSEEN” hand in the midst that day.  An “Unseen” hand that prompted that gifted group of scientists and engineers to not give up or give in!  An intrinsic motivator that guided their efforts to success…

I feel that same way in any given situation where “miracles” do exist and happen.  I don’t, for one second, believe a true miracle can happen at the hand of mankind alone….Even Jesus plainly told his disciples, “With MEN this is impossible, but with GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!”

Let me ask you a few questions….What if Gene Franz had not determined that ,”Failure was not an option,” that day?  What if his renown team of scientists and engineers decided “it” was just too  hard, too much, and too difficult to attempt and time was quickly running out?  What if everyone at NASA simply shook their heads and bid farewell to the astronauts on board that day?  What if?  What if?  What if?

But, the strength, courage, faith, determination, and power that day to reach success was honored by God; our creator.  And, with GOD all things are possible.  But, I believe that man must do his part as well…We cannot sit on a couch somewhere and expect God to open doors that we are not willing to put forth effort to open ourselves.  Very seldom do jobs and careers just drop out of the skies.  Very seldom do diplomas and degrees just land in our laps.  Very seldom are goals reached by just “wishing” them to happen.  We must first be willing to put forth our very own human efforts combined with GOD’s inabilities to fail to reach success!

Thomas Edison once wrote that he had over two-thousand failed experiments before he invented electricity…Michael Jordan not only kept data on the basketball goals he made, but he tracked the staggering thousands he didn’t make!  To know and experience success, we must be willing to endure seeminly failures along the way….But, with determination, hard work, skills necessary to achieve, and FAITH in God that ALL things work according to His purpose and plan….Failure can become NOT an option in our lives, as well….

By Faith and through Faith, we learn that even our losses and inabilities to reach certain goals become stepping-stones to what God has in store for our lives down the road…As Christians, “Failure is NOT an option!”  For we believe in Romans 8:28…”And, we know that ALL things work together for good to them that love GOD, to them who are the called ACCORDING to HIS purpose.”

Ask yourself….Are you doing your part; all you can do, and leaving the end results in God’s hands?  On that fateful day in the spring of 1970, Gene Kranz’ team could have suffered a different outcome.  It could have been that after every attempt was made to the fullest of their abilities, the flight and crew of the Apollo 13 may have suffered tragic loss…Yet; both Kranz and his team would have known for certain that they had given it all they humanly had to give….Yet; with their determined efforts and God’s blessings upon those efforts “Failure was not the result of the day.”

I pray that if you are facing a monumental challenge or hurdle in your life today that you will do all that you can do and leave the final results in God’s hand knowing that by FAITH God has a purpose and plan for each of our lives…Nevertheless, I do pray that the final outcome will be as successful for you as it was for Director Kranz.  For with God all things are possible….and all things work according to His purpose and plan…For His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways…But His ways and thoughts are always the Right way….

Remember, God Loves You!
