“Everyone That Thirsteth…”
“Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come…” Isaiah 55:1 KJV.
The Word of God is going out all over our globe. Pastors are preaching the Word, singers are singing about the Word, Sunday school teachers are teaching about the Word, and missionaries are spreading the Word…Yet, pastors, evangelists, and congregations all over the world are seeing a decline in membership and souls being saved; those souls who are born-again and discipled for the cause of Jesus Christ. Why? What is the problem?
It seems that concerned statisticians from every denomination are busy putting together stats, graphs, and charts showing a continued decline in “salvation” records for the past several decades. Many churches are simply dying-out, closing their doors, and leaving communities after communities without a House of Prayer to attend.
Of course, there are the scattered “mega churches” that base their services upon more of a “high adrenalin” atmosphere with strobe lights, smoke, and extremely loud music to attract their congregations. I’m not saying that these churches are not out there helping to build up the Kingdom of God by no means…Many of them do a fantastic job at bringing lost souls into the fold as well as keeping and discipling believers…..But, some, as we all know, are merely nothing more than, “show and tell.” They “show-out” a lot and “tell” nothing!
Unfortunately, for both me and my family, I am the type of person that when you continue to tell me, “We have a problem,” I start looking for solutions! Or, at least what factors are contributing to the “problem.” By no means am I saying that I can “fix” things, but I sure do examine them to death looking for answers! I would have probably been a good CSI person if I could have thrived in the environment without running away! LOL!
Nevertheless, with so many pastors preaching sermons on the “decline” of the church, I started my own investigations into the probable causes and contributing factors. I came up with “lots” of opinions and theories. But, then I came across the Word of God …and that pretty much settled it…”Ho, every one that thirsteth…”
Did you see that? The decline is NOT founded in our well-prepared messages, programs, or plans….Because NEVER in the church age have we ever had so many messages, programs, and plans…. The answer….We just don’t have people out there who are “Thirsting!”
The world, and all that it has to offer, is filling the bellies and souls of mankind with so much indulgence that “Salvation” or the idea for Salvation just doesn’t appeal to their five senses…The world offers plenty to see, hear, taste, touch, and smell…twenty-four seven…non-stop. So, why “thirst for eternal salvation? We have it all! And, we don’t want to give it up!
What does Jesus say about this? His own words can be found in the book of Revelation, chapter three, verse 17: “Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest NOT that thou are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked…” (Rev. 4:17 KJV).
Sadly, when a fisherman lets his pole line down into a school of fish who are not hungry the fish will swim around the bait all day long without ever taking a bite. Or, some fish may play with the line, jerk on the line, and even swim a bit with the line, but in the end because their bellies are full…they will let go of the line! The fisherman either gives up and goes home or he moves to another location where the fish are biting!
Today, and for the past few decades, the over-abundant prosperities of so many lives have filled their bellies and mind so much with this world and all that “it” has to offer that the “need” or “thirst” for Salvation doesn’t exist. For a person to come to Christ Jesus, they must first be “Thirsty” for the WORD of GOD. They must first exhaust all of their earthly thirst for pleasures and treasurers. But, the Word of God teaches that in the LAST DAYS, man will become “Lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God!” A most sad reality in today’s world…
So, what do we who are believers do? Simple….we keep on keeping on until the next soul comes to a place of “thirst” desiring the fulfilling and indwelling of God…And NOT that of the world….
So, preachers keep preaching and singers keep singing…til one more lost soul comes into the fold…the Kingdom of God!
“Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing…” Maranatha.
