“By Faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” Hebrews 11:3 NIV
Have you ever pondered the fact that everything that we can see, feel, or touch was made by One whom we cannot physically see, physically feel, or physically touch? The entire vast universe and beyond was all formed and created by the spoken Words of One whom we have never physically heard His voice; God.
How do we accept this truth? By Faith….We accept these things by FAITH… What is faith? “The substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not YET seen.” (Hebrews 11:1).
On yesterday, I attended the funeral of a very dear, well-beloved saint who died in his mid-eighties. It was a very touching and moving service. As I listened, one part of the service seemed to catch my attention in a renewed way. As the minister was delivering the sermon, he stated, “He was a man of Faith, who possessed faith, and when he died he held to his faith that he would see Jesus and all that Heaven holds.”
The pastor’s words, and the way he presented them, made me reflect upon the fact that no one sitting in that particular church or any other church on planet earth gets to Heaven in any other way, form, or fashion except by Faith. In other words, not even the great evangelist Billy Graham has ever physically seen God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, or Heaven…Whether we are Billy Graham, Mother Teresa, or simple folk such as myself, we are ALL going to Heaven by Faith in God and His son, Jesus Christ. No one has a corner on seeing God or Heaven sooner than the other….We see God and Heaven only after death….Until then, it’s all by Faith.
I believe it is how we deal with and handle our faith that makes us different…Not Faith itself…but how we deal with our faith. In other words…some people live out their faith by following the examples and commandments in God’s written word, The Bible. This is their personal testimony to the world that they actually possess faith in God and have a relationship with Him, by faith, through His Son, Jesus.
But, sadly, there are others who state they have faith; yet live contrary to God’s word….Their lives do not reflect having or possessing a genuine “faith” in God…They just say they have faith in God. “Hearers of the Word…but not doers of the Word…”
Ask yourself this question…Which person do you feel genuinely possesses Faith in God? The one who “lives” out their faith…Or, the ones who state they have faith, but do not show it in their life-style?
To me, the answer to that question is simple…The one who truly possesses Faith is the one who physically lives out their faith in obedience to God’s word…. Here is my theory…The visible (our actions) providing foundation for the invisible (God’s actions)…Did you see that? Faith is believing in the invisible presence, works, and nature of God while living out our faith in a very real “visible” way! In other words, I demonstrate my faith THROUGH the visible things that I do…The visible giving honor to the invisible!
Today, can people visibly see your Faith in God in all that you do and the way that you live? Do they see you living a life-style of faith? Or, do they just hear you say that you have “faith,” but do not demonstrate it in your life? An invisible faith is really no faith at all! For Faith to be real Faith, it MUST be visible!
I hope and pray that as I live, as well as when I die, people can say that I “lived” out my faith visibly…in honor, reverence, obedience, and respect unto the invisible God of the universe. God may be invisible to the naked, physical eye…but our Faith should be visible to all.
“By Faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched (physically marched!) around them for seven days.” (Hebrews 11:30 NIV). Their faith and its results were visible…Is ours?
