The song, Mary Did You Know, is among my favorite Christmas songs of all time. Actually, it makes my top ten list.
This past Saturday, I had the blessed opportunity to hear my oldest daughter, Wendy, speak at a Christmas luncheon for a church in our area. Actually, both she and I were guest speakers on the same day at two different churches. What a blessing! Fortunately for us both, she spoke at lunch time, and I had the pleasure of speaking in the evening. So, we were able to be with one another and hear one another speak.
I love to talk “Scriptures” with Wendy. We both have a zeal for deep Bible study and one of us is always calling the other sharing what new insights we feel the Lord has graciously bestowed upon us during our studies.
This past week was no different. I attentively listened to each word as my daughter taught on, “Things Mary Pondered.” I love how she allows the Lord to use her to minister to women of all ages.
She brought out how Mary had to know the Old Testament Scriptures foretelling of a Savior to be born in Bethlehem of Judea. The virgin Mary also had to know that Isaiah prophesied that , “by his stripes we are healed.” And, she had to know that Isaiah also foretold of a, “virgin bringing forth a son.” Oh, the things that Mary pondered in her heart as she surrendered her heart, will, and life to God.
As my daughter pointed out, Mary pondered these things within her heart. She also pondered the present events and happenings within her life; clinging to her faith in God as she was first visited by the Holy Ghost, then the shepherds, and later by the Three Wise Men. Such amazing happenings.
Then, Mary, no doubt, pondered the future prophecies knowing that the Son-of-God she brought forth, before she endured one birth pain (“Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child…Isaiah 66:7), would be the suffering Savior to save the whole world from their sin (John 3:16).
What an amazing miracle from God. And, the song, “Mary Did You Know” describes that most holy of all miracles so powerfully wonderful. No wonder it’s among one of my favorites.
“Mary Did You Know that your baby boy would one day walk on water? Mary Did you Know that your baby boy would one day save our sons and daughters?” Did you know that your baby boy was Heaven’s perfect lamb?”
Oh, that precious male child sent from God to be our Blessed Redeemer. The very Child that Mary brought forth would be the very Man who would not only save her life…but mine as well.
Thank you sweet Heavenly Father for this precious hand-maiden of the Lord, the Virgin Mary, who was willing to “Ponder” these things within her heart.
Remember, God Loves You!
