Finding God’s Will…Is not always an easy process. There are times when God’s will is very evident. I call these times my “Burning Bush” experiences. During these experiences, God’s will is placed right in front of our eyes and it is up to us to either obey or disobey His guidance.
There are times when we, as believers, let our circumstances guide us in making choices and decisions, or we choose to press-on in a matter; or accept a matter as is. This is always not a bad thing and much-needed in the life of an “unbeliever” as well as a “believer.” What do I mean? Some choices and decisions are simply “common sense.” Example: It’s NEVER God’s Will to try to beat a rushing train across the tracks! It’s NEVER God’s will to place ourselves or someone else in grave danger. (Please note that I’m not talking about a professional soldier trained to defend his country!) I’m speaking of everyday men and women like myself.
So, how do we find God’s will? First, we choose to accept His will in Salvation. The Bible clearly teaches, “Neither is there salvation in any other (Jesus Christ); for there is none other name under heaven given among men, where by we must be saved. (Acts 4:12 KJV)
Then, we discipline ourselves to “live” according to the principles of the Bible. The Bible teaches in Romans, chapter six, “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death (we turn from our own ways to following God’s ways): that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should WALK (LIVE!) in newness (being born-again, saved) of life.” In other words, “old things (our old ways of doing things) are passed away and behold all things are new.”
After becoming believers in Christ Jesus and asking Him to forgive us of our sins and sinful nature, we don’t walk in the old paths of sin and disobedience to God. We purpose within our hearts to follow him in our daily walk. Believing in God YET living in Sin (against His principles and teachings!) is NOT Finding God’s Will for your life! To find God’s will after receiving His Salvation, one must “seek His face.”
When we know that we are walking in the Light, as Jesus is the Light, then we can have full assurance that God is leading our path. God’s pathway is not always down the Road of Easy-Street. Accepting God’s will is not always easy in our lives. We may have wanted a particular job, yet God closed the door. We may have wanted to purchase a particular home, yet God closed the door. We may have wanted to marry a particular person, yet God closed the door. We may have wanted to see our loved one healed right here on planet Earth and be returned to a life of productivity. Yet, God chose another way; possibly even granting eternal healing with Him in Heaven. (God’s thoughts are not our thoughts; neither are our ways God’s way, saith the Lord. Isiah 55:8). As Christians, we learn to Trust in the Almighty UNSEEN Hand of God within our lives.
In the book of John, chapter 4, verse 34, Jesus told his disciples, “My meat (my whole reason for existence) is to do the Will of Him that sent me, and to finish his work.” I believe that trying to “force” a matter is contrary to the Will of God. We never have to “work up” God’s will for our lives. Hebrews 12:2 tells us, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…” God already knows what is best for our lives and for the lives of those we interact and interceed.
The Bible also teaches that where there is “confusion” and “darkness” (opposite of Peace and Light) we will find evil at work. The Bible teaches to “abstain (stay away) from all appearances of evil.” (I Thessalonians 5:22). If you are in a “confusing” matter or truly “uncertain” of which way to go or which choice to choose….Stand Still until God brings peace and light upon the situation. This is often where we “fail” to obey God’s will….We simply do not Wait for it to be revealed to us. We are all guilty of this at times…I know I am. “Lord, help my unbelief!”
We need to have full assurance that God is the Creator. Therefore, He can take even our “bad” choices in life and turn them around for His purpose when we submit and allow Him to do so. (Romans 8:28). But, it’s so much sweeter when we choose to do the right thing in the first place! By doing so, we often times avoid years and years of struggles within our lives.
Today, you may be struggling in a decision or choice in your life. You may be seeking or “choosing” for God’s will in a particular matter or circumstance…Wait upon God’s guidance. “The Lord is good unto them that wait for him…”(Lamentations 3:25 KJV). Wait for His Peace and Light upon the matter; and don’t PUSH for “it” to happen. God never has to “push” for His will to be done…He simply speaks and “it” happens.
Oh, I could go on and on in this area. I have seen God open doors for people that you would never think could happen. Then, I have seen Him close doors that no one can open. But, the bottom line, so to speak, is allowing God to be God and letting Him be the sovereign voice of decision in your life. Just as Jesus spoke, “I am here to be about my Father’s business….Let Thy will be done.”
Prayer: “Our Father who are in Heaven, hallowed (uplifted) be thy name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is it Heaven. Give us this day (today) our daily bread. Forgive us of our trespasses (debts) as we also forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory Forever…Amen.”
Remember, God Loves You.
