Good Day! Let me ask you a question. Do the Ups and Downs in this life seem to take your breath away much like a roller coaster? They do mine. No sooner are we up on a mountain top experience than we are plummeting down wondering how much longer it will be until we reach the bottom and topple out.
Then, there are the few mundane days in between the highs and lows when life simply coasts along; just enough to catch our breath before the next hill or valley. No wonder so many people have to take mood relaxers or anxiety, stress-relief medicines. We can’t seem to process one situation before another situation hits our plates!
The Ups and Downs of life! Learning to cope with these experiences is much like an athlete in training. At first, even walking a simple mile is tough but after days and days of practice a mile is a piece of cake as you eagerly head towards a second, third, fourth, or even a fifth mile of the day. Good for you! You have disciplined and toned your physical body to endure the distance.
This is much the same way we must discipline and tone our Spiritual lives to endure the distance. Put it plain; life is just not that simple, and we have to learn how to manage the Ups and Downs without it driving us crazy!
There are times when we do need assistance in helping to manage stresses and anxieties in our lives. They can nearly overwhelm us. Talking to a good friend, seeing a doctor, or talking to a counselor can be very beneficial to our lives, as well as to the lives of those loved one living around us; especially when they see and live with our weaker side! We all have a weaker side! But, those who love us should understand and support not only our strengths but our weaknesses as well. “Love is kind…Love is patient.”
People are different; no one is alike, and not everyone handles stresses and situations in the same manner or fashion. We have to adjust ourselves, and give those we love time enough to adjust as well. For life is filled with many complexities and challenges. That’s Life!
Today, you may be facing a challenge. You may be either going up the mountain, coming down the mountain, or living the mundane days between. Whatever your status, it is important to know that you can and will make it. You can ride out your storm because God is right there with you, or you can enjoy the Wonderful Peace of God flowing like a river for He is right there with you, as well. The many Ups and Downs of life…
As Christians, we have so many promises found in the Word of God to help us and to sustain us through difficult and challenging times. Such blessed words of assurance that our Heavenly Father will never leave nor forsake us, even when those around us do. Our daily lives are dependent upon knowing and fully trusting in the presence of an all-knowing, omnipotent, ever-present Savior who was there with us this morning when we awakened and will be there with us tonight as we tenderly fall asleep.
I don’t know about you, but there have been many, many times in my own life when I have tried to look to others for assurance and comfort during some of the Ups and Downs of life only to be painfully discouraged and disappointed. Not looking to others for our happiness and comfort is a hard lesson that we all must learn. The Bible teaches, “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our Faith.” Amen.
God wants us to be sufficient in Him. He wants us to look to Him FIRST, not second or third. He wants us to look to Him long before we consider looking to others. If God chooses for others to help comfort us in a matter, then He will send that person or persons to our side. Other than that, we will find our complete and total comfort in Him; and He loves when we fully rest by faith in His arms and in His assurances!
Today, God is having each of us to train and discipline our Spiritual lives in Him. This is the reason for the Ups and Downs in our lives; much like doing sit-ups; and who really likes sit-ups? None of us…but it’s obviously a part of God’s training and discipline program. So, we learn to do sit-ups! But, the great thing about being a Christian is that God is right there beside us as we learn to lean forward and lean backward in the process. Toning our lives in Christ Jesus!
We must keep our eyes ever on the Heavenly Prize as we ride life’s roller coaster and learn to train and discipline ourselves in order to be strong enough to bounce back without injury or harm to ourselves; or to others.. We have to make the choice to believe and to acknowledge that God knows what He is doing; even when we don’t know what He is doing!
Today, trust in God as you go through the Ups and Downs in this life. And, let us always look forward with hope and joy to that eternal day when there will be no more ups and downs, only clear blue skies ahead. A day when God, himself, shall wipe away all our tears and the former things are passed away.
“What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see, and I look upon His face, the one who saved me by His Grace. When He takes me by the hand and leads me to the Promised Land; what a day, glorious day that will be!” Amen.
Remember, God Loves You!
