Breaking Away From the Past

I believe most human beings have things in their past that they must “Break Away” from. It can be disappointments in life, broken friendships, pain and hurtful words that were spoken in unpleasant circumstances, the losses of death or divorcements, abuses of all types of nature, unfulfilled dreams. Daily, we can be reminded of things that just didn’t work out the way we had hoped. Sometimes, we can even allow these past things to cloud the present or affect our outlook on the future. Sometimes, it is hard and even a battle to move forward in an attitude of hope and joy when we reflect upon the past. In the book of Philippians chapter 3 verses 13-14, the Apostle Paul talks about, “forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth  unto those things which are before.” He encourges us to “press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”  Today, we can choose to sit down and reflect upon the past and all of its disappointments and failures, or we can choose to press forward with hope toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.  Just saying the words, “press forward” can bring about an attitude of hope and promise in God. It doesn’t mean that there won’t be added disappointments and failures in life, but it does mean that we are leaving the matter and the results in the hands of God through his Son, Jesus Christ. I pray for you today to be able to enter a mindset of “forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.”  Nothing worth doing is ever easy. The word “press” denotes putting forth effort to move something. Today, let’s start pressing towards a new path of breaking away from the past and pressing towards the future in Christ Jesus.

Remember, God loves you.
